In Brief
- Yuga Labs has introduced a new zombie infection game, “Outbreak,” currently in a three-week beta testing phase.
- “Outbreak” is accessible to all players without the need for tokenized entry, marking a shift from previous Yuga projects.
- Earlier in 2025, the Otherside metaverse set a Guinness World Record with 2,197 players concurrently online in a first-person shooter game.
Yuga Labs continues to expand its presence in the gaming world with the beta launch of “Outbreak,” a new game in its Otherside metaverse. Unlike previous offerings that were restricted to token holders, “Outbreak” opens its doors to all players, reflecting Yuga Labs’ strategic pivot to broaden its user base.
“Outbreak” is a zombie infection-themed game described by Yuga co-founder and CEO Greg Solano, also known as Garga. He explains the gameplay vividly: “one guy’s got the plague and he’s got to chase everybody down and get them infected. Then at the end of the round, it’s a timed match, either the survivors win or the infected win.” This game has been in development for several months and uses the Otherside Development Kit akin to their previously released 8v8 shooter “Bathroom Blitz.”
The game starts with a relatively small map, which is planned to expand as the game progresses through its beta phase and beyond. This approach engages players, encouraging them to explore the expanding game environment.
This release follows a significant achievement earlier in the year when the Otherside metaverse recorded a historic milestone by breaking the Guinness World Record for the most concurrent players ever in an online first-person shooter, featuring 2,197 players at once.
Players interested in exploring this new interactivity within the Yuga Labs ecosystem can access “Outbreak” through the Otherside website. This release not only enhances Yuga Labs’ game repertoire but also serves as a bridge to introduce more participants into their evolving metaverse platform.
