Reviews at CryptoGames.gg are written by George Tsagkarakis (@staycalm4now) unless specified otherwise.
All reviews are designed to inform you about two key aspects: whether I enjoyed a game and, more importantly, why I feel that way. I evaluate crypto games based on their stated objectives and how effectively they meet them, covering aspects such as gameplay mechanics, tokenomics, community engagement, and long-term vision.
My goal is to provide you with sufficient information, analysis, and context to help you make an informed decision about whether a specific crypto game is worth your time and investment. My reviews also serve as constructive criticism, encouraging the entire web3 gaming space to strive for excellence. I hold games to high standards, particularly regarding the utility, security, and sustainability of their blockchain features.
Selecting Reviews
I select games for review based on what I believe will most interest CryptoGames.gg audience, taking into account factors such as the game’s quality, content, community profile, and relevance to the cryptocurrency gaming ecosystem.
Editorial Oversight and Rating
As the sole author, I maintain strict internal editorial oversight before publication. The final review always reflects my professional judgment. I set any star ratings (or equivalent scores) based on my own thorough analysis.
I dedicate sufficient time to gain an intimate understanding of a game, including its economy and community. The exact time required varies greatly depending on the game’s complexity, its blockchain component, and whether it necessitates deep long-term testing (as seen in MMOs or P2E economies). I make an informed judgment about the appropriate amount of time needed for each title. If stable, representative review builds are not available, I will delay publishing the review.
What and When I Review
I only review games using retail-equivalent copies, meaning the version I test is identical to what the general public can play.
- No Early Builds: I do not review games from unstable “debug code” or pure alpha versions.
- Betas: I will only review a beta version if it is functionally identical to the version available to the broader public.
- Post-Launch Testing: For games that require an internet connection, feature a heavy multiplayer component, or operate on a live token economy, I typically conduct my reviews after the official launch. This allows me to experience the game with a fully representative player base and an active market, ensuring my experience accurately reflects that of most players. I make every effort to account for any “day one” or critical updates.
- Review Timing: I determine the timing of reviews at my discretion, aiming to complete them as early as possible while remaining thorough and representative of the final product. If I need to delay a full review until after launch, I will often publish initial impressions or a “first look” around the launch date.
- Early Access and Live Service: I may review commercially available “Early Access” versions if there is significant public interest and the game is close to its intended full release state. For games released in episodic or seasonal formats, I typically publish a comprehensive final review only once all content is available; however, I may publish impressions of major individual episodes or seasons.
I always strive to publish authoritative reviews that require minimal updates. The version released to the public should be the one the developer is willing to be judged on. While exceptional and specific changes may warrant an update to a review or score, a complete re-review will only occur in rare cases where a game’s entire structure or economy undergoes a profound and significant change.
Creator Courtesy
As a courtesy, I may notify game creators or publishers of the final rating their game has received, provided that the review process is complete and the notification is sent up to 24 hours before the review is publicly posted. I never disclose the text or content of a review before it is published.
