Roblox launches subscription service
Roblox has introduced Roblox Plus, allowing subscribers a 10% discount on all in-game transactions and avatar items upon enrollment, with that discount doubling to 20% after three months of continuous membership. The cost of the discount will be absorbed by Roblox, ensuring creators earn the same amount per sale, regardless of the purchaser’s subscription status.
In addition to discounts, Roblox Plus offers free access to paid private servers, item trading, and fee-free Robux transfers. Players will also see an exclusive profile badge. Further features, including new ways to buy Robux, are expected to roll out shortly after the April 30 launch.
New API for creators
A new tool, the PromptRobloxSubscriptionPurchase API, enables developers to integrate Roblox Plus sign-ups directly into their games. This allows players to subscribe without leaving the game, streamlining the subscription process.
Creators using the API will receive 250 Robux for each player who subscribes to Plus from within their game, accruing up to 750 Robux over the first three months for each new subscriber. Additionally, creators can earn up to 100 Robux for every Plus subscriber who spends at least 60 minutes in their paid private servers each month.
“Roblox Plus is designed to reward our most engaged users while ensuring that creators continue to benefit as the platform grows,” said Enrico D’Angelo, Chief Business Officer at Roblox.
Roblox Premium to cease
As Roblox Plus launches, the platform will stop accepting new subscriptions for Roblox Premium beginning April 30, 2026. Current Premium members will retain their subscriptions and receive a free month of Plus. However, certain Premium benefits, including a 10% bonus on Robux purchases, will end on May 30, 2026.
This shift transitions Roblox from a fixed Robux stipend to a discount-driven model. The initial 10% discount requires users to spend about $50 in Robux each month to cover the subscription cost, decreasing to $25 when the 20% discount takes effect.
A significant change for developers
Roblox has a user base of 144 million daily users, encompassing a wide range of games and experiences. The introduction of a discount model reflects significant changes in how engagement translates to revenue for both the platform and its creators.
Unlike the previous Premium model, Roblox Plus aims to amplify transaction volume. A subscriber’s Robux will now stretch farther, encouraging further purchases and benefiting creators. The new compensation for private servers and API bonuses provide enhanced revenue avenues for creators.
Roblox operates as a user-generated content platform, allowing developers to create and monetize various games and experiences. The launch of Roblox Plus underscores a commitment to enhancing creator earnings while providing added benefits for players. Roblox Plus will go live globally at $4.99 per month on April 30, 2026, marking a key shift in the platform’s subscription offerings.
