Pixels Unveils Chapter 3: ‘Bountyfall’ with Unions
Pixels, a Ronin-based social farming game, has officially launched its latest update, Chapter 3, named ‘Bountyfall’. This latest chapter introduces a novel community engagement feature called ‘Unions’, aimed at infusing a competitive yet collaborative spirit into the gaming experience.
Unions: A New Way to Engage
Unlike traditional gaming guilds that often require high levels of communication and have entry barriers, Unions in Pixels offer a more accessible approach. Players have the freedom to choose from one of three unions: Wildgroves, Seedwrights, and Reapers. Each union has its unique yieldstone resource—Verdant, Flint, or Hollow—which comes in five different tiers.
Competitive Play and Rewards
The gameplay revolves around earning yieldstones either via the game’s taskboard or by crafting on NFT lands. Players can then deposit these stones in their union’s hearth to strengthen it or strategically place them in a rival union’s hearth to impede their progress. The competition heats up as each union vies to be the first to have their hearth’s health reach 100%, triggering the distribution of rewards up to 50,000 PIXEL tokens, valued at approximately $7,500. These rewards are allocated based on the rank of the union and the participation level of its members.
Switching unions is possible; however, it incurs a cost of 50 PIXEL tokens and includes a cooldown period, adding a tactical layer to the gameplay dynamic.
Insight From the CEO
Luke Barwikowski, the CEO of Pixels, shared insights on the company’s strategy and vision. “In the early days of Pixels, our strength was pure brute force. We shipped fast, without overthinking polish, and it worked. As our user base grew, we slowed down to perfect systems first, and honestly, that was a mistake. About six months ago, we decided to return to our roots with rapid updates, experimentation, and fast iteration. It’s been far more effective, and we’re seeing real momentum again,” he remarked.
Further elaborating on the direction for Chapter 3, he added, “For this next stage, our focus is on building strong systems and sustainable economics first. That’s where the real experimentation needs to happen, and it’s exactly what we’re doing with Chapter 3. Over the past year, we’ve been refining everything around one core metric, return on reward spend, and for the first time, we’re seeing it above one. Our goal with Chapter 3 is to keep Pixels sustainable over time.”
With such developments, Pixels aims to redefine its engagement model and bolster its growth trajectory in the competitive landscape of browser-based gaming.
