Streaming service Hulu (DisneyPlus) has officially green-lit a reboot of the hit series Prison Break. The new show is set in the same universe as the original Fox drama but introduces an entirely new cast and fresh narrative.
The story will center on Cassidy, portrayed by Emily Browning, a former soldier turned corrections officer who takes a position at a high-security prison in the United States to prove how far she will go for someone she loves. Among others in the cast are Drake Rodger playing Tommy and Lukas Gage as Jackson. Additional cast members include Clayton Cardenas, JR Bourne, Georgie Flores, and Myles Bullock.
Helming this project is showrunner Elgin James, known for his work on Mayans M.C. He serves as writer, director of the pilot and executive producer. Also attached to the new series are original creators and producers Paul Scheuring, Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz.
Notably, original stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will not return. Miller publicly confirmed he is stepping away from his role as Michael Scofield and any new “straight” characters.
The reboot will debut on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ internationally. Meanwhile, all seasons of the original series remain available for streaming.
