- Platform Shift: The game will now operate on Immutable’s Ethereum Layer 2 network, promising enhanced performance and support for digital ownership.

Returning to the Arena
‘Spider Tanks‘, one of the early multiplayer games in Gala Games ecosystem, is poised for a comeback. Renamed ‘Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos’, the game is slated to relaunch under the stewardship of its original developer, Dutch studio GAMEDIA, now in collaboration with Immutable. This move marks a significant milestone for the game, which initially launched in 2021 but faced operational challenges under its previous partner, Gala Games.
A Fresh Foundation on Immutable
This reincarnation of Spider Tanks will leverage Immutable’s Ethereum Layer 2 network, renowned for its capability to enhance game speed and scaling. Immutable highlights that the transition will not only bolster the game’s performance but also augment the digital ownership experience for players.
Robbie Ferguson, Co-Founder and President of Immutable, has praised the game’s alignment with their platform’s ideals, highlighting the seamless integration of enjoyable and high-quality gameplay with the advantages of web3 technology. Dittmar Tukker, CEO of GAMEDIA, views this venture as a reset focusing on fun and transparency in gaming.
Troubled Partnership and Legal Tussles
Previously, ‘Spider Tanks’ had been developed in collaboration with Gala Games, where it was promoted as a flagship web3 esport featuring in-game assets as NFTs. Yet, the partnership soured around mid-2024, culminating in a public confrontation. GAMEDIA issued a statement on May 28, 2024, delineating their growing concerns with Gala, eventually accusing them of diverting focus from game development to other business areas such as film and real estate.
The escalating tensions led GAMEDIA to part ways with Gala in October 2023. Gala Games subsequently contested for the intellectual property rights of ‘Spider Tanks’, which led to legal proceedings. The dispute was settled when the Central District Court of California dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds in September 2024, enabling GAMEDIA to proceed independently with the game’s development.
Immutable and GAMEDIA: A New Chapter
With legal hurdles behind them, the strengthened partnership between GAMEDIA and Immutable was signaled by mutual engagements and social media updates throughout 2024 and 2025. The game’s revival was first hinted at in a teaser video released by Immutable in August, prompting fan speculation about the return of ‘Spider Tanks’.
‘Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos’ is now on the horizon, with an early access launch date set and a dedicated Discord server for the community to keep abreast of further developments. This new chapter not only promises a revitalized game experience but also stands as a testament to resilience and innovation in the evolving landscape of web3 gaming.
