Winter Update Catalyzes Growth in MapleStory Universe
MapleStory Universe, a popular blockchain-based game, has reported significant growth and engagement following its winter update. The update, which was released in mid-December 2025 and concluded in February 2026, introduced new content designed to attract and retain players.
Player Growth and Engagement
The strategy to rejuvenate the player base proved effective, adding over 96,000 new players and re-engaging more than 34,000 lapsed players during the update period. This surge has pushed the lifetime registered accounts of the game to surpass the two million mark.
Furthermore, the update seems to have profoundly impacted player retention and daily engagement. The proportion of players spending more than nine hours a day in MapleStory Universe increased from 35% to 43%. While these figures represent login time rather than active playing time, they are still indicative of heightened player interest and involvement with the game.
Economic Impact
From an economic perspective, the winter update also marked a turning point. The game saw a 171% rise in the number of transactions between November 2025 and February 2026. Additionally, the trading volume of NESO, the game’s currency, expanded by an impressive 400%. Despite the corresponding 44% decrease in the value of its pegged NXPC token, the overall trading value adjusted to an increase of approximately 180% during the same period.
Starting February 5, 2026, token inflows into MapleStory Universe turned positive, a promising sign for the game’s economic stability. Nexpace is seeking to capitalize on this momentum by introducing new features, such as allowing players to mint their characters’ nicknames as NFTs, adding a layer of personalization and potential economic transaction within the community.
A Look Forward
Sunyoung Hwang, CEO of Nexpace, affirmed the positive outcomes of the update, stating, “The winter update delivered measurable increases in both user participation and ecosystem activity. Observing this level of engagement following a single content update reinforces our view that demand for sustainable, utility-driven on-chain gaming experiences continues to grow.”
Nexpace remains committed to enhancing the MapleStory Universe, planning further updates aimed at sustaining and expanding the game’s community and economic dynamics. As the platform evolves, these continuous improvements are likely to keep current players engaged while also attracting new users to the evolving digital landscape.
