In a significant shift within the blockchain gaming industry, Sorare, a football card game, has officially announced its migration from the Ethereum blockchain to Solana. This transition marks a departure from the EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) system to the non-EVM Solana network, indicating a major technological update for the platform.
Sorare, which debuted in 2018 and initially operated on the Loom Network before moving to Starknet, has always been associated with the Ethereum ecosystem. The decision to switch to Solana is seen as a strategic move to leverage Solana’s unique features, including its rapid transaction times and robust community engagement, often associated with dedicated blockchain enthusiasts and novel token initiatives.
The company outlined the migration will be smooth for its users, requiring no manual intervention from players. All existing ETH balances of players will automatically be transferred to Coinbase‘s Base blockchain early in October. Subsequently, by the end of the month, all Sorare cards will be converted into Solana NFTs, maintaining their original attributes such as scarcity, serial number, season, experience points, and other metadata.
Sorare elaborated that the move to Solana enables the integration of new features which includes expanded wallet support, additional payment options like ETH, SOL, and soon stablecoins, and access to external marketplaces. The shift also paves the way for future innovations in gameplay and promotional activities, enriching the user experience significantly.
Although many of these enhancements could have been implemented within the EVM framework, Sorare opted for Solana, drawn by its reputation in handling high-speed transactions and its appeal among dynamic crypto communities.
