Three seasons in, nobody in the town of From has figured out how to leave. The show’s audience, somehow, has the opposite problem: they can’t stop coming back.
The sci-fi horror series that quietly became the most-watched show in MGM+ history returns tonight, April 19, with the first of 10 new episodes. Season 4 drops at 9:00 p.m. ET, and if you’ve been following the mystery of the town that traps everyone who enters and unleashes something terrible after dark, you already know the drill. Sundays, weekly, through the finale on June 21.
But here’s the thing that changes the calculus for season 4: From now has an expiration date. MGM+ confirmed the renewal for a fifth and final season ahead of tonight’s premiere. The writers’ room for that last batch of episodes is already open. Production is expected to start this summer, with a 2027 target.
So what you’re watching tonight isn’t just another round of questions. It’s the beginning of the answer.
The Man in Yellow finally steps forward
The biggest dangling thread heading into season 4 involves the shadowy figure fans have been calling the Man in Yellow. He’s lurked at the edges of the show for seasons, and the official plot description for the new episodes suggests his purpose and his connection to the town’s nocturnal creatures will start coming into focus.
The season’s central questions, per MGM+: Who is the Man in Yellow, and what does he want? Will Jade and Tabitha’s revelation be the key to getting out? How much longer can Boyd hold things together as his body and mind deteriorate? And what role does the town’s most recent arrival play in all of this?
That last question likely refers to Sophia, a new series regular played by Julia Doyle. She’s described as a sheltered pastor’s daughter, which in the context of From probably means she’s going to have a very bad time.
Why the ending matters more than usual
Creator John Griffin told The Hollywood Reporter that the story was always built for five seasons. The creative team briefly considered stretching to six, but ultimately decided against it. “There was a fair amount of soul-searching,” Griffin said. “But we all came to the realization that if we made that sixth season, it would be for us, because it’s just too hard to say goodbye.”
Griffin called season 4 “the beginning of the end.” Director Jack Bender, who also helmed episodes of Lost, said season 5 felt “like the right time” to wrap the story, and that fans will get definitive answers to the town’s biggest mysteries.
That matters. From sits in a specific genre tradition of mystery-box shows that stack questions for years and then fumble the resolution. The 96% Rotten Tomatoes score (with season 3 hitting a perfect 100%) suggests this isn’t one of those shows, at least not yet. Griffin has reportedly told cast members he knows exactly how everything ends, including the mythology around the children, the stones and the tree. Whether that confidence translates into a satisfying conclusion is the real test. But knowing there’s a plan, and knowing it’s five seasons deep, puts From in a stronger position than most of its predecessors.

Harold Perrineau returns as Boyd Stevens, the sheriff holding the town together through force of will and not much else. The ensemble around him is intact: Catalina Sandino Moreno as Tabitha Matthews, Eion Bailey as Jim Matthews, Hannah Cheramy as Julie, Simon Webster as Ethan, Ricky He as Kenny Liu, Chloe Van Landschoot as Kristi, Corteon Moore as Ellis, Pegah Ghafoori as Fatima, David Alpay as Jade, Elizabeth Saunders as Donna, Avery Konrad as Sara and Scott McCord as Victor.
Behind the camera, Griffin is joined by executive producers Jeff Pinkner (Lost, Alias, Fringe) and Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones), with Anthony and Joe Russo producing through AGBO. The series filmed in Nova Scotia.

Ten weeks from now, From will be two-thirds of the way finished as a series. For a show built on the tension between wanting to know and being afraid of what you’ll find, that’s a fitting place to be.
