What is Otherside BAYC?
Otherside BAYC is a browser-based metaRPG developed within the Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem and built on the Ethereum blockchain. The project combines traditional MMORPG mechanics with Web3 technology to create a virtual world where thousands of players can interact simultaneously in real time. The game integrates blockchain asset ownership and decentralized economics as core features of its gameplay experience.
How to play Otherside BAYC
Otherside BAYC operates on a player-owned model where the virtual world itself is controlled by NFT holders rather than a central developer. The game uses MMORPG-style mechanics centered on exploration, interaction, and collaborative world-building. This structure allows thousands of concurrent players to participate in shaping the shared virtual environment through gameplay and economic participation.

The game features in-game currencies with real monetary value, enabling players to earn cryptocurrency rewards through gameplay. Our verdict on Otherside BAYC
Otherside is Yuga Labs' metaverse project, conceived as a shared world tying together Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutants, CryptoPunks and other collections rather than a standalone game you download and play. Land is represented by Otherdeed NFTs, whose 2022 mint famously congested Ethereum and burned an enormous amount of ETH in gas — a useful signal of how much of this project's history has been financial rather than ludic.
What works is ambition and infrastructure: the large-scale concurrency demos, or "Trips," showed thousands of users in one instance at once, and the browser-based Legends of the Mara spin-off gave holders something playable while the main world stayed in development. The art direction and lore are genuinely distinctive.
What does not work is delivery. Years after the land sale, Otherside is still a sequence of timed events, demos and side experiences rather than a persistent world you can log into whenever you like. Anyone arriving expecting an open MMORPG will find a roadmap.
This suits NFT holders already invested in the ecosystem and people curious about large-scale virtual events. Players wanting a finished game should wait.
