What is GRIT?

GRIT is a third-person battle royale shooter set in the Wild West, developed by Team GRIT and published by Gala Games. Announced in June 2022 and built in Unreal Engine, it launched free-to-play on the Epic Games Store, which Gala positioned as the first Web3 title to arrive on that storefront. Rounds place players in an open Old West map where firefights break out in town, on horseback, and along the roofs of moving steam trains. You can queue solo, in duos, or in squads, facing rival gunslingers and the environmental threat the game calls the Calamity.

How to play GRIT

Each match starts with an aerial approach and a drop into the map, after which players scavenge weapons and fight to be the last one standing. In place of the usual shrinking circle, GRIT uses the Calamity Storm: a mount can help you outrun it, but survival still means outlasting everyone else. Matches run roughly 15 to 20 minutes. Weapons are tied to playing-card suits, and assembling a matching hand such as a flush grants bonuses, while a perk system lets you tune a loadout with wildcards found around the world. Other systems include stealing a seat on the last train out of town to stay inside the ring, bargaining with the Devil to trade your soul for items or fast travel, and 1v1 redeployment duels that give a knocked-out player a route back into the round. Match objectives vary, with the eye of the storm converging on a speeding train, a golden horse, or a lost crown.

Is GRIT worth playing?

GRIT suits players who want short bursts of competitive PvP rather than a long single-player campaign, and its Western theme and card-based weapon perks separate it from more conventional shooters. Its blockchain layer sits within the Gala Games ecosystem, though early playable builds ran without NFT items in matches.
