More than 60 games have been banned across different countries. That’s a lot for a medium this young, and one of the most notorious offenders is about to crawl back out of the hole censors buried it in.
Postal 2 is coming back. Properly back, on modern platforms, funded by a Kickstarter that blew past every stretch goal its developers set.
A ban worn like a badge
The 2003 FPS earned its exile honestly. Unrestrained violence, crude humor and enough guns to make even John Wick blush, all delivered with the kind of over-the-top graphic carnage you’d expect from an episode of The Boys.
Guinness World Records calls it the “most critically divisive video game.” That’s not marketing. That’s a governing body of records essentially throwing up its hands.
Until now, playing it meant a PC and the right passport. Certain countries only.
The Kickstarter that doubled its target
Postal 2 Redux smashed through all its stretch goals and raised more than double what the developers needed to publish the game.
There’s no official release date yet. It’s expected to launch in Q1 2027.
The move makes sense on paper. Flat2VR Studios recently put out a successful VR version of the game, so a flat-screen release for PC and console players was the obvious next step.
What’s changed under the hood
Redux runs on Unity, and the visuals have been given a total overhaul. The game has never looked better.
Weapons hit harder and have more bite than before. Interiors are more destructible, which does the chaotic gunplay a considerable favor.
Loading times have been squashed. NPCs get smarter AI, so once the chaos kicks in they call for backup quicker, with smarter pathing and cops that overreact in the best possible way.
Add a plethora of quality of life additions on top and you’ve got a version of Paradise that actually functions like a modern game.
Will it get banned again?
That’s the open question, and nobody’s answering it yet.
Console guidelines run a lot stricter than PC, so the console release might arrive with cut content and some censorship. Australia, New Zealand and Germany also enforce strict content guidelines.
If the game launches in its purest form, it will certainly get banned in multiple countries.
Which means spending a week in Paradise with your faithful companion Champ by your side might depend entirely on what country you’re living in come 2027.
Earned, for once
We’re used to seeing content getting banned for unusual reasons. In the case of Postal 2 Redux, a ban feels well-earned.
The rest of 2026 belongs to Grand Theft Auto VI. Leaks, news, the eventual release, all of it. So it’s worth knowing there’s a sandbox built for pure chaos waiting on the other side of that.
Postal 2 Redux won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. But it offers the blend of The Boys’ comic book violence and John Wick’s combative gunplay, and Flat2VR Studios doesn’t need a Rockstar-sized catalog of 10/10 masterpieces to make that worth your time.
