Pixels launches community development platform
Pixels has unveiled a new community development website aimed at consolidating player-created projects, feature requests, and development bounties. This initiative follows the release of the game’s client and backend as open-source software.
The Pixels Community website enables developers to showcase their contributions, ranging from enhancements to complete game forks. Players can also vote on submitted features, potentially leading to official integrations within the game.
Range of contributions accepted
The platform accommodates a variety of projects, including interface changes, accessibility features, and standalone resources like calculators and guides. Developers can operate independent instances of the game, allowing for unique worlds and economies, using either the GitLab repository or Pixels’ Reforge tools to create separate versions known as Realms.
Submissions must include a project description, media, source code, and playable links. Projects undergo a moderation process before publication to ensure compliance with community rules. However, the moderation does not equate to a security audit, and players are advised to exercise caution with community-operated clients.
Voting process for player input
Approved projects are entered into a community voting process where players can evaluate and vote on submissions. Voting power is based on holdings in the Pixels ecosystem, including PIXEL tokens and Land NFTs. Monthly resets mean players can adjust their votes regularly, but even successful votes do not guarantee integration into the live game, as final decisions rest with the Pixels team.
Bounty system enhances participation
The new platform also introduces a public request and bounty system. Players can propose development tasks and offer PIXEL rewards for their completion. Developers seeking these rewards must submit a merge request and provide a payout wallet, with payments marked as paid only after on-chain verification.
Historically, development discussions occurred informally across Discord threads. This new platform aims to centralize those interactions, streamlining community development initiatives.
“This site replaces outdated channels and facilitates organized collaboration for all contributors,” a Pixels spokesperson said.
