Picture a future where the next Fallout, the next Elder Scrolls and the next DOOM only show up on Xbox and PC. Now picture Minecraft vanishing from the PlayStation and Nintendo storefronts. Microsoft wants to know how you’d feel about that.

Xbox is reportedly testing how players would react to a return to a broad exclusivity strategy. A questionnaire that appeared for some members of the Xbox Insider program lays out scenarios where well-known games launch only on Xbox and PC.
The survey names names
This isn’t a vague mood check. The questions call out specific franchises: Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM and Diablo. Minecraft is in there too.
One scenario asks participants to imagine that every future game from Xbox's studios ships exclusively on Xbox and PC. There’s one carve-out, and it’s the one you’d expect. Call of Duty is excluded.
The Minecraft scenario goes further. It floats the idea of pulling the game from sale on PlayStation and Nintendo, with no new content updates for the existing versions on those platforms.
What Microsoft wants to hear from you
For each hypothetical, players get a short menu of responses. Would you play on an Xbox console you already own? Buy a new one? Go with PC? Or just skip the game?
That’s a pretty blunt way to measure whether exclusives would move hardware or simply push people away. (And it’s the kind of question a company asks when it’s weighing a decision, even if it hasn’t made one.)
Screenshots of the survey came from a user, and they were confirmed to be authentic.
Nothing has changed. Yet.
So far, Xbox hasn’t announced any change to its release policy. A survey isn’t a strategy, and Insider questionnaires exist to test ideas that may never ship.
But somewhere at Microsoft, someone typed out a sentence asking players what they’d do if Minecraft stopped being sold on a Switch. That’s a question worth sitting with.
