In Brief:

  • M-Tech Entertainment relaunched Battle For Giostone on Oct. 18 as a browser game playable on PC and mobile with no download, three days later than the studio promised.
  • To make up for the delay, the studio is running a two-week Launch Season through Nov. 1 that pays $5,000 in GBFG to the top 100 ranked players on its EU and SEA servers.
  • The BFG token hasn’t launched yet. The game runs on GBFG for now, and the studio said holders can swap GBFG for BFG once the token goes live.

Battle For Giostone is live again. M-Tech Entertainment opened the rebuilt 5v5 MOBA on Oct. 18. It runs in the browser on PC and mobile with no launcher or download.

The launch came three days late. The studio responded by adding a two-week Launch Season with $5,000 in prizes.

“The gates are open,” the studio said on X. “We launch three days late, so we added a 2-week Launch Season: $5,000 in GBFG for the top 100 in EU and SEA.”

How the Launch Season works

The prize pool is split evenly: $2,500 for the EU server and $2,500 for SEA. The top 100 players on each server’s leaderboard get a share.

The event started when the game went live on Oct. 18 and ends Nov. 1. Leaderboard position is based on MMR.

“Win ranked matches and it goes up; lose and it goes down,” the studio said in its event rules.

Players qualify by playing ranked on the EU or SEA server and finishing at least 10 ranked matches during the two weeks. That’s the same number the FAQ lists as placement matches. Until a player finishes their first 10 ranked matches of a season, their rank shows as Unplaced.

Players can use any Hero they own in ranked, including the free Hero given at signup.

Each server pays the same amounts. First place gets $400, second $250 and third $150. Fourth and fifth get $100 each, sixth through 10th get $60, and 11th through 20th get $35. Places 21 through 50 pay $15 and 51 through 100 pay $8.

Winnings go out in GBFG, credited to player accounts after the two weeks end.

GBFG now, BFG later

GBFG is the game’s in-game currency. According to the FAQ, a ranked win pays 250 GBFG and an unranked win pays 25 GBFG. Losses pay nothing.

The studio published BFG tokenomics on Oct. 18, the same day as the launch. Total supply is 150,000,000 BFG. Players earn GBFG in matches, use it to forge Heroes and can sell those Heroes to other players on the marketplace. Sellers keep 95% of the sale price.

“The BFG token is not out yet,” the studio said. “For now the game runs on GBFG, our in-game currency. When BFG launches, you can swap your GBFG for it.”

The studio said it will publish details of the swap before it opens.

Holders of the original BFG token will get the same amount of the new BFG token, the studio said. Genesis Hero owners will get every Genesis Hero they own back.

Rebuilt from 2022

M-Tech, based in Bogdanci, announced the comeback on Sept. 11 and said it was rebuilding the game “from the ground up, for the browser.”

“Four years after the first pre-alpha tournament, the Giostone is waking up,” the studio said at the time.

The core rules haven’t changed. Matches are five against five, fixed at 30 minutes, and end with a shrinking arena. Gio spawns three times, and three stones decide which team holds the power. Every Hero has four equipment slots filled from the abilities of six classes.

All six original Heroes are back: Akuma, Lucius, Gogmangog, Gurluk, Ranvir and Auri. They use the models the studio built in 2022, with new portraits. There are 47 abilities on record.

Forging is unchanged. Players pick a class, then choose one ability each for the hands, legs and body, plus an ultimate for the head. An ability is strongest on its own class and weaker on any other.

The original BFG token launched in October 2022 after an IEO on Avalaunch. The game reached pre-alpha that November. Players had to download a launcher to take part in later alpha builds.

The September announcement also said Season 1 of the Primal Giostone League would follow the play button.

According to the FAQ, matchmaking pairs players by rating within the same mode and region. When few players are online, the studio said, matches may be filled with AI players.

The tokenomics post carried a warning: “There is no BFG on sale today. If anyone offers you BFG before we announce it here and on X (@BFGiostone), it is not ours.”
