If you bought a Radeon RX 6000 card back when the series launched in October 2020, AMD just handed you a free upgrade. The company officially announced that FSR 4.1 is coming to the Radeon RX 6000 series, covering everything from the 6900 class down to the 6400.
That’s a wider net than most people expected. Older hardware usually gets left behind when a new upscaler arrives.
AMD’s Jack Huynh made the announcement in a post that opened on a personal note. “As a lifelong gamer, I think deeply about how to make gaming better and more accessible for everyone across consoles, desktops, laptops, handhelds, and the developers who build the games,” Huynh said.

The RX 6000 news came first on his list. “FSR 4.1 is coming to Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards. Tuned and optimized from the 6900 series down to the 6400 class,” Huynh said.
Which cards are covered
The RX 6000 family is large. It includes the RX 6500 XT, RX 6600, RX 6600 XT, RX 6650 XT, the high-end RX 6700, RX 6700 XT, RX 6750 XT, RX 6800, RX 6800 XT, RX 6900 XT and RX 6950 XT.
AMD’s wording, “from the 6900 series down to the 6400 class,” suggests the whole range is in scope. The company hasn’t published per-card results yet, so how much the lower-end models gain is still an open question.

If you haven’t used it, FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) uses machine learning to produce a sharper image in games while raising overall performance, which means higher frame rates.
APUs get it for the first time
The bigger surprise is integrated graphics. “For the first time, FSR 4.1 is coming to APUs,” Huynh said.
The list is specific. AMD named “All Gorgon Halo and Strix Halo for your mini desktops and mobile workstations,” “All Gorgon and Strix Ryzen 9 for your laptops” and “All Z2E and Z2A for your handhelds and for gamers on the go.”
But that’s not every APU. “And don’t worry, we are working hard to bring FSR to more APUs in the future,” Huynh said. If your laptop chip isn’t on that list, you’re waiting.
Xbox is on the list too
FSR 4.1 is also coming to Microsoft’s hardware. “FSR 4.1 is coming to @XBOX. Optimized for @ASUS_ROG Xbox handhelds and Xbox Series X | S,” Huynh said.
So the upscaler is spreading in two directions at once: down to older PC graphics cards and out to consoles and handhelds.
Huynh framed it as a matter of scale. “We power over a billion gaming devices around the world. It’s a responsibility we care deeply about,” he said.
What else changed
The RX 6000 news came with a handful of smaller updates. According to Huynh, FSR Redstone is now in more than 400 games on Radeon 9000 series graphics cards.
FSR Frame Generation gets more consistent frame pacing, which AMD said makes for smoother gameplay. Ray Regeneration is coming to more games.
And FSR is coming to Vulkan soon, which Huynh described as “Another way for developers to bring it into their games.” That matters because an upscaler only helps if developers add it to the games you play.
AMD hasn’t given a firm date for the RX 6000 rollout beyond saying it’s coming soon. Huynh’s sign-off was “We’re still building.” If you’re running an RX 6600 or RX 6700 XT, keep an eye on your driver updates over the next few weeks.
