Fenris Creations revealed that the Sanctuary update for EVE Frontier will launch on June 25, resetting player progress from Cycle 5. Players will retain their Grace Points, which can be converted into EVE Points.
This update positions Cycle 6 as a foundational overhaul, emphasizing survival, exploration, and agency within a hostile sci-fi universe. Game director Sæmundur Hermannsson stated, “Sanctuary puts the core systems of EVE Frontier front and center.” Players will start with a basic ship that they can expand using acquired modules, allowing for tailored progression linked to exploration and strategic choices.
Space itself will become more perilous with new environmental effects, such as thermal, electromagnetic, and gravitational hazards. These elements arise from conditions like deep space cold and nearby stars, affecting gameplay aspects like scanning and character progression. Survival will be influenced by more than just combat and resources.
Exploration gains depth with dormant gates and ancient structures scattered across starter systems. Players will repair and activate these gates, opening pathways to new star systems.
PvE will also receive upgrades with new enemy types and varying drone behaviors. For instance, Ferals will now compete for resources and defend critical areas while leech enemies will attach to ships and drain resources, evolving into mini-bosses.
Development director David Bowman said, “This is our most impactful update yet. Modular ships, dormant gates, environmental hazards, and new enemies all move the game toward the same goal: giving players more agency in a galaxy that is innately dangerous and shaped by what they build, discover, and fight for.”
