Off The Grid has its own page in our games catalog, and you can compare it with every other title in our ranked list of crypto games.
What you earn and how: Off The Grid is free-to-play with optional NFT elements, and its play-and-earn side rests on in-game items players can trade. Its token is GUN on the GUNZ chain, an Avalanche L1, as of 2026-10-21. Players extract Hexes in matches. These are lootboxes holding a random weapon, cyberlimb or cosmetic, and opening one costs GUN. GUN also buys items on the Market and, for players without OTG Pro, claims free battle pass rewards. The official GUNZ account reported 636 onchain marketplace sales totalling 1.5 million GUN over 30 days, as of 2026-09-20. Tournaments pay prizes too. The solo Summer League had a $5,000 pool (as of 2026-07-20), and Node Wars offered $6,000 in GUNZ Nodes, which are validator NFTs, as of 2026-03-27.

How we researched this review
This is a research-based review, not a play log: nobody on our team claims hours in Off The Grid here. We read our catalog entry, 1 official page, the official gameplay guides and store listings, Steam user reviews, 6 forum or blog pages, the public Discord channels, the official update history and news coverage, token market data, team, funding and audit records (read on 2026-10-21). Forum posts, community chats and docs pages often carry no date: those sources are undated, and each one is linked where we use it so you can check it yourself.
What is Off The Grid?
Off The Grid is a free-to-play, third-person battle royale shooter from Gunzilla Games. It mixes extraction rules with a heavier story than most games in its genre. It’s built in Unreal Engine 5 and set on Teardrop Island, a near-future cyberpunk island that three megacorporations carved up, where contestants fitted with cybernetic prosthetics fight in a televised bloodsport. Neill Blomkamp is the studio’s chief visionary officer, and Richard K. Morgan wrote the script.

Off The Grid’s home chain is Avalanche. The game’s token is GUN, which runs on GUNZ, an Avalanche L1. The game is on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Off The Grid is in Early Access on Epic Games, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and GeForce Now.
Each Off The Grid match combines battle royale elimination with extraction. Outlasting the lobby is half the objective, and getting high-value loot off the island before the match ends is the other half. Players loot gear, weapons and cybernetic augments from the map and from other players, with more than 30 cyberlimbs to pick from, and whatever they extract carries forward after the round. The game is free to download, and Gunzilla has stated it is fully playable without any crypto involvement.
Off The Grid entered early access in 2024 and is live, with PvP battle royale matches and PvE story missions. The island map lists Stork City, OCIO, Tryout and Midtown Harbor, with 7 more locations announced as coming.
Gameplay experience
Off The Grid is a third-person battle royale with an extraction layer on top: you win by outlasting the lobby, and you keep the loot you get off Teardrop Island before the match ends. The format has its own name, Extraction Royale, a blend of battle royale and extraction shooter.

How a match plays
You start matchmaking from the play button in the bottom-left corner of the lobby, then wait in a warm-up area until the match begins. Deployment opens on a top-down map of a coastal city with docks, and your squad list sits in the upper left. You then drop or glide in from high above the skyline.
You can shoot an opponent’s limbs off and take them, or pull limbs from crates around the map, and you can swap and upgrade them in the middle of a fight. Arms such as the Ripper, Javalina, Ghost and Paralyzer install on the spot, as do Hammerhead legs, along with armor plates, large-caliber ammo and backpacks. Upgraded legs give you more mobility.
Movement is vertical. Jetpacks drive an aerial movement system, and the vertical maps let you enter and exit fights fast, which rewards aggression. A grappling line pulls you up building faces and swings you between construction cranes.
The play area, called the grid, shrinks as the match goes on. An announcer warns when a grid overload is coming, counts it down, sometimes pauses it and tells you to stay away from the burning edge. Inside that space, every match asks you to choose between fighting rival players and hunting valuable Hexes, which you extract to keep rare high-value loot. Hex extraction time can be cut down, and whatever you extract carries forward past the round.
Side objectives called Teardrop Ops come up mid-match, such as tracking down a marked hostile player or destroying three servers marked on the map, and each one can succeed or fail. In squads you can revive downed teammates, respawns stay open only for a limited time, and the announcer calls it out when your team wipes an enemy squad.
Modes
Matches run in solos and trios. Solos is the more laid-back queue, where many new and casual players go to finish story missions while they play matches.
Progression and difficulty
Progress comes from loot: the gear, weapons and cybernetic augments you extract stay with you. You put together each loadout from what you find, including body parts looted from fallen players. Most fights end up at close range, in warehouses, alleys and construction sites.
Controls and platforms
The camera sits behind the character in third person, and the game is built in Unreal Engine 5. Teardrop Island looks realistic and muted, with concrete shells, cranes, palm trees and muddy construction sites.
Getting started
On PC you get it through Steam or the Epic Games store, and you can also stream it through GeForce Now.
- Queue solos or trios. Solos is where many newcomers work through the story missions.
Graphics, art and sound
Off The Grid has realistic third-person shooter visuals, and its tropical city stands out for a pink-magenta haze in the sky.

Art style and world
Concrete buildings, construction cranes and dark steel scaffolding stand among palm trees and dense foliage. Muted concrete greys and blues sit next to strong accents: neon signs, orange equipment glows and lush green plants. Other parts of the map are swampy jungle.
Characters and animation
The camera sits over the character’s shoulder in third person and switches to a high aerial view while you drop in. The Steam store page puts weapon combinations in the thousands, so most play styles can find a loadout that fits.
Interface and menus
The in-match HUD follows the usual battle royale layout, so minimap, health and ammo sit where genre veterans expect them. Results screens track account and battle pass progress.
Music and sound
An in-game announcer calls out events with lines such as “Elimination initiated, moving to the area” and “Direct voice link deactivated”. The announcer is crude and comic, and insults and taunts players. Timed Combat DJ events bring music into the match.
Economy and earning reality
Off The Grid’s money works on two levels. Inside a match, cash pays for loadout drones and revives. Outside it, the GUN token had a market value of about $9.06 million as of October 21, 2026.

Money inside a match
Matches run on in-round funds. Once the game reports that you have enough, you can call in a loadout drone. Bringing a dead teammate back to life also costs money, and the announcer sometimes offers that revive at a discount.
The GUN token
On October 21, 2026, about 3.8 billion GUN were in circulation out of a 10 billion maximum supply.
GUN’s 24-hour trading volume was $3.24 million on October 21, 2026, more than a third of its market cap.
Community pulse
| Channel | Size | Activity |
|---|---|---|
| Discord | 136,943 members | 11,804 online |
Off The Grid has a large, active Discord and a split Steam audience. On October 24, 2026, the official Discord server had 136,943 members, and 11,804 of them were online when it was read.

Steam players are less enthusiastic about Off The Grid. The Steam store page rates the game Mixed, with 56% of 2,676 user reviews positive. Just over half of the people who reviewed it there recommend it, so the Discord numbers say more about the size of the audience than about its satisfaction.

Bitrue wrote in a guide to the full release that Off The Grid was planned to leave early access in October 2026, on its two-year anniversary. The same guide covers the GUN token, the GUNZ chain and the NFT marketplace, and tells players who skip those features: “If you just want to play, very little changes.”
Roadmap and current status
Off The Grid is live and gets more updates than it did a year ago, but its 1.0 launch hasn’t arrived. The game runs on GUNZ, an Avalanche L1, and the franchise’s other named title is TECHNOCORE. As of October 24, 2026, it is #2 on our ranked list of crypto games.

Off The Grid logged 20 dated updates and news items in the last 12 months, up from 8 in the 12 months before.
What shipped against the roadmap
On June 2, 2026, egamers.io covered a five-phase plan toward a full 1.0 release with performance upgrades, new content systems and AI anti-cheat. Day 1 retention had climbed 2.5x since launch at that point. The plan’s final phase is an October public release on the game’s second anniversary, according to a sponsored Game Informer post.
The performance patch did ship. GUNZ said weekly transactions rose 14.3%, from 3.00 million to 3.43 million, egamers.io reported on August 7, 2026, which points to more activity on the chain after the patch. Ranked Mode went live on December 13, 2025, alongside a separate Casual mode. Competitive play followed: the Pioneer Cup on February 28 and March 1, 2026, Flaw Gaming’s NODE WARS with $6,000 in GUNZ Nodes, and a solo Summer League with a $5,000 pool that ran from July 17 to August 15, 2026.
The marketplace is active. Over 30 days, the official GUNZ account counted 636 marketplace sales worth 1.5 million GUN (September 20, 2026). A six-piece Veteran’s Crest login set for the anniversary closed on October 14, 2026.
Gunzilla Games has been under strain. In April 2026, current and former Gunzilla staff alleged on LinkedIn that salaries went unpaid for up to five months, even though the studio has received over $100 million in funding.
Off The Grid’s earlier milestones go back to 2024, when Decrypt’s GG named it Game of the Year. In September 2025, EU PC players began moving to the GUNZ mainnet.
Risks
Off The Grid’s risks sit with the GUN token and with how little Gunzilla Games publishes about its economy, while players who skip crypto are mostly shielded. If you hold GUN or trade items for it, you carry the market risk yourself.

Token price risk
GUN’s all-time high is $0.1152, as of October 21, 2026. Check the token’s current price against that peak before you hold GUN or value marketplace items in it, because every item priced in GUN rises and falls with the token.
No NFT floor price or item price history is published alongside the marketplace sales figures, so you can’t easily tell what a cyberlimb or weapon held its value at last month. A buyer prices each item against thin, recent sales.
Team, funding and paperwork
Off The Grid is built by Gunzilla Games. The studio’s founders don’t appear in any of the game’s official material covered here.
No security audit report is published for the GUN token or the GUNZ chain. There is also no whitepaper setting out GUN’s supply rules, unlock schedule or how the economy is balanced, so holders depend on Gunzilla’s own announcements for any change.
Release timing
No full-release announcement has followed that plan, so Off The Grid is still an early-access game that is open to balance changes, wipes of progress systems and shifting rules for items tied to GUN.
Off The Grid alternatives
The closest comparable game on our ranked list is Shrapnel, another extraction shooter. Off The Grid sits at #2. Its page has the genre, chain, token and current status side by side with this one.
Verdict: is Off The Grid worth your time?
Off The Grid is worth a download if you want a free third-person shooter with extraction rules and a real story mode. If you’re after crypto income, skip it. Gunzilla has stated the game is fully playable without any crypto involvement, and the GUN side on Avalanche and the GUNZ chain is optional.
Who should play it and who should skip it
Off The Grid suits shooter fans who like PvP with missions mixed in. Solos is a laid-back mode where many new and casual players work through their story missions, and trios is there when you want a squad. Players who want a harder test have had Ranked Mode since the December 13, 2025 update, which split competitive play from casual play.
Players who want to earn should look elsewhere. GUN traded at $0.002388 on October 21, 2026, far below its all-time high. Marketplace items are priced in GUN, so what they’re worth in dollars rises and falls with the token.
Off The Grid is also a poor fit if you expect a settled, well-liked game. On Steam, 60% of the 70 reviews from the last 30 days are positive, about the same as its lifetime Mixed rating, so recent patches haven’t won over the doubters.
What would move the score
Gunzilla has been busier this year: 20 dated updates and news items in the last 12 months, against 8 in the 12 months before.
A 1.0 launch that ships with the promised performance and anti-cheat work would raise the score. Another delay would lower it, and so would more of the pay trouble that staff described in April 2026, when egamers.io covered the unpaid-salary claims.
