In Brief:

  • Ronin said annual RON emissions have fallen from 45M RON to 5M RON since its move to Ethereum, an 89% reduction.
  • All of the remaining 5M RON per year goes to builders through Proof of Distribution. RON can no longer be staked for rewards.
  • Ronin called the new rate the lowest in its history and put annual inflation at about 1.2%.

RON emissions are now at the lowest level in Ronin’s history, the network said on X.

“Since Ronin moved to Ethereum, annual emissions have dropped from 45M RON to 5M RON, an 89% reduction,” Ronin said.

RON emissions are now at their lowest level in Ronin's history.
Since Ronin moved to Ethereum, annual emissions have dropped from 45M RON to 5M RON, an 89% reduction.
The remaining 5M RON per year goes toward rewarding builders through Proof of Distribution.

Every token in that 5M RON yearly budget goes to builders. Validators and stakers don’t get a share anymore. Ronin’s blog put the new inflation rate at about 1.2% a year.

Where the RON goes

The emissions flow through Proof of Distribution, the reward system Ronin introduced alongside its Ethereum migration. It pays registered projects based on the activity of the smart contracts they submit.

Ronin said 416K RON goes out to builders every month. Payouts are based on a builder score that counts gas spend, active users holding more than 10 RON, new users holding more than 10 RON, NFT and DEX volume and smart contract volume.

“The metrics and weighting for the builder score calculation was done via an AI-powered analysis of the metrics that most align with $RON’s success,” Ronin said in a post announcing the leaderboard.

The formula isn’t fixed. “This scoring mechanism will be an evolving process and will be adjusted based on the behaviors we observe,” Ronin said.

Rewards go out monthly, based on data from the previous four weeks. Builders register by connecting a Ronin Wallet on the Proof of Distribution site and submitting their contract addresses.

No more staking yield

The shift ended passive staking rewards for RON holders.

“There’s currently no way to stake your RON and earn rewards. All rewards will flow directly to builders,” Ronin said in its migration blog post.

Ronin said it chose the Proof of Distribution metrics because “those metrics correlated strongest with the market cap of RON.”

Treasury picks up new income

Lower emissions came with changes on the treasury side. Ronin moved the remaining 90M RON that had been set aside for staking into the treasury.

The treasury also takes net sequencer profits, which Ronin defines as total gas revenue minus blob fees and expenses. And Ronin Marketplace fees went up to 1.25% from 0.5%, with that revenue also going to the treasury.

Background

Ronin left its sovereign L1 setup and became an Ethereum layer 2 on May 12, 2026. It now runs as an OP Stack chain.

Conduit led the technical work, which Ronin described as “the largest state migration in history.” RON stayed the gas token after the switch.

Before the migration, Ronin was on track to emit 45M RON a year in rewards. The team’s pitch to builders under the new model is one line from its blog: “The more you build, the more you earn.”
