Portal launched Portal Shop, a storefront that lets users convert Shards into game top-ups and gift cards.

The storefront currently lists 97 products, filterable by category, product, platform and region. Regional coverage spans the U.S., U.K., Europe, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Turkey, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, along with global SKUs. Buyers get instant codes or direct account top-ups.
Shards or card
Shoppers can pay with Shards or with a payment card. Portal says Shards carry better value than card payment, though it hasnβt published a conversion rate. Paying in Shards requires signing in, and the site offers free Shards to anyone who creates an account.
Shards come out of Portalβs own events. Portal Game Jam Aug, running Aug. 15-17, carries a 50,000 Shards prize pool. The September jam, scheduled for Sept. 19-21, carries the same. The Portal Gen8 Creators Program runs Aug. 1-31. Earlier programs included Portal Nexus: Asset Sprint from July 6-20 and Portal Studio: Agent Chats from June 1-15.
Portal lists the Shop alongside Studio, Nexus and Gen8 behind one login.
The pivot
Portal is a different company than the one that ran the PORTAL token launch in 2024. It announced Portal 2.0 on April 18, framing the relaunch as βDay 1β and abandoning its old positioning as an interoperability and liquidity layer for web3 gaming in favor of AI-native creation tools.
That relaunch followed a merger with BLIFE Protocol announced Dec. 22, 2025. Animoca Brands agreed to back the combined business with new capital and portfolio connections. Benjamin Charbit, previously a director at Ubisoft on Assassinβs Creed IV: Black Flag, took over as CEO when the merger closed.
Four products were named at the unveiling: Studio, GameRouter, GameGen for prompt-generated games and GameHub for monetization.
GameRouter shipped in late July under the name Nexus, at nexus.portalgaming.com. It routes prompts to specialized models for code, sprites and audio behind a single API key and one credit balance covering 2D, 3D, voice, music and NPC tooling. Portal described it as βa unified API that powers your agents, assets, and pipelines across your entire game-dev stack.β Developers can connect existing tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Unity, Unreal or Godot.
Gen8, an integrated engine Portal says is nearly ready to ship, sits third on the roadmap. The company opened early access to 20 hand-picked creators who will build alongside the team and help steer its dev tools. GameHub hasnβt arrived.
The Nexus name survived the pivot but the product didnβt. An earlier Portal roadmap attached it to a cross-chain gaming experience built for asset-to-asset transactions.
Where the token sits
Portal has earmarked revenue from the AI tools for regular PORTAL buybacks. Holders get early access, advanced tool usage rights and voting rights.
PORTAL distributed 50 million tokens through Binance Launchpool between Feb. 22 and Feb. 28, 2024. Total supply is 1 billion, with roughly 592.5 million circulating. The token hit an all-time high of $3.36 on Feb. 29, 2024.
Several things remain undisclosed. Portal hasnβt published pricing or access tiers for the AI tools, hasnβt detailed the tokenβs role inside the creator workflow, and hasnβt named the model providers behind the routing layer. Legacy staking is also unresolved. In mid-June the team said it was finalizing a solution and planned to publish an unstaking guide.
Shards, for now, are the only currency the Shop advertises a discount for. The token that gave Portal its name buys nothing there.
