Star Atlas

What is Star Atlas?

Star Atlas is a space-themed multiplayer strategy game built on Solana by ATMTA, Inc., set in a far-future galaxy where three factions — MUD (human), ONI (an alliance of alien species) and Ustur (sentient androids) — compete for territory and resources. Rather than a single client, it spans several linked products: SAGE Labs, a browser-based layer for exploration, mining, crafting and fleet management; Faction Fleet, where staked ships generate passive rewards; and the Galactic Marketplace, where ships, crew and components trade as NFTs. Because those items are held on-chain in a player's own wallet, they persist independently of any one game module.

How to play Star Atlas

Entry runs through play.staratlas.com: connect a Solana wallet, pick a faction, then acquire at least one ship from the Galactic Marketplace before doing anything in SAGE Labs. In SAGE, fleets are dispatched to star systems to mine resources, haul cargo between starbases, survey for materials and craft components. Actions resolve on real-world timers and consume fuel, ammunition and food, so the loop is closer to logistics management than to real-time action combat. Development continues on a public test realm, SAGE C4, which adds combat, crafting habs, claim stakes, council rank and regional governance ahead of wider release.

Star Atlas tokenomics & earning

The economy runs on two SPL tokens. ATLAS is the utility currency used to buy ships and resources and to settle trades between players. POLIS is the governance token, with a fixed maximum supply of 360,000,000; locking it grants voting weight in the DAO — over asset release schedules, economic parameters and development direction — plus POLIS rewards over time. Earnings come from extraction, crafting and trading rather than fixed payouts, and SAGE C4 deliberately adds sinks such as ship destruction in combat alongside a faction-based Loyalty Points pool. Net results therefore depend on ATLAS market prices and on ongoing fuel and repair costs, and are not guaranteed.

Our verdict on Star Atlas

Star Atlas is less a single game than a set of connected Solana products under one setting: SAGE Labs, a browser client for mining, hauling and crafting; Faction Fleet, where staked ships accrue passive rewards; and the Galactic Marketplace, where ships, crew and components change hands as NFTs held in the player's own wallet. Anyone drawn in by the cinematic space-opera trailers should adjust expectations early — the thing you actually operate is a spreadsheet-adjacent logistics layer, not a flight sim.

What works is the depth of the economy. Two SPL tokens split the roles cleanly — ATLAS for purchases and trade, POLIS (capped at 360,000,000) for locked governance weight over asset release schedules and economic parameters — and the SAGE C4 test realm adds real sinks, notably ship destruction in combat, rather than only faucets. What does not work is the on-ramp: you must buy a ship on the marketplace before SAGE will let you do anything, and fleet actions resolve on real-world timers while burning fuel, ammunition and food. Returns come from extraction and trading, so they move with ATLAS prices and running costs.

It suits patient economic-strategy players comfortable with wallets and upkeep math. Those wanting immediate action should look elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start playing Star Atlas?
You create an account and connect a Solana wallet on the official site at staratlas.com, then begin with the browser-based strategy layer before moving into deeper fleet and mining activities. New commanders typically need a starter ship, which can be bought or rented in the in-game marketplace.
What are the ATLAS and POLIS tokens used for?
ATLAS is the in-game currency used to buy ships, equipment, resources and other assets, while POLIS is the governance token used for voting on the direction of the game and its regions. Both run on Solana and are tradable outside the game.
How do players earn in Star Atlas?
Players earn ATLAS mainly by sending fleets on mining, transport and combat missions, and by crafting or trading resources and ship components on the in-game market. Earnings depend on the ships and equipment you own, so returns vary and are not guaranteed.
Do I need a crypto wallet to play?
Yes, a Solana wallet such as Phantom or Solflare is required to hold ATLAS, POLIS and your ship NFTs and to sign in-game transactions. Ships and assets are held as NFTs in your own wallet rather than on a central account.
Is Star Atlas still being developed?
Yes, the project continues to ship updates through its browser-based strategy client while the larger Unreal Engine space sim is built out in stages. Development progress and release notes are published on the official Star Atlas website.
