There is a cardboard box you can buy for your cat, and it is officially licensed by Konami.
That’s the headline item in a Metal Gear cat toy collection debuting at CatCon 2026, made in partnership with a celebrity kitty named ‘one-eared Uno.’ The scratch boxes are modeled after the same cardboard boxes Big Boss and Old Snake hide under to slip past enemies, which means your cat will finally be doing on purpose what it already does anyway.
Yes, there’s a cat convention
If you didn’t know that, now you do. CatCon is a yearly event that pulls cat lovers from all over the globe into Pasadena, California, with special exhibits, workshops, adoption drives and meet-and-greets with celebrity cats.
Uno is one of those celebrity cats. She and her owner, Kat Curtis, are hosting a meet-and-greet at the Konami booth this year to mark the toy line’s release.
How Uno got here
Kat found her as a stray, abandoned near a dumpster. One ear, an underbite, and now more than five million followers on social media between the two of them.
They’re meeting fans at CatCon on October 12 at 2 PM PST.
What’s actually in the collection
Beyond the scratch boxes, there are plush pet toys and cat collars inspired by Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
CatCon runs October 10 through 11 at the Pasadena Convention Center. The Snake-approved merch is available on those days only, at the convention and online through the OKS Gear Shop.
There’s a giveaway attached
Fans can win a chance to meet Uno and pick up the exclusive Metal Gear merch by visiting the Konami booth and doing one of three things: showing they own Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, adding the collection to their wishlist, or buying the Metal Gear merchandise at the booth.
The reason this exists
The whole thing is a limited-time promotion tied to the launch of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, a compilation of the classic stealth-action games arriving August 17, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and Steam.
Is a cat convention an odd place to promote a stealth series? Sure. But this is a franchise where a man fights a psychic in a gas mask and a sniper who photosynthesizes, so a one-eared cat with an underbite selling you a cardboard box isn’t the strangest thing to carry the Metal Gear name.
And honestly, the box was always the best part.
