You wake up as a soldier, the world has ended, everything around you has mutated and your only plan is to shoot your way toward an answer. That’s the whole pitch for Deadshot, and right now Steam is handing it out for nothing.
Valve keeps running these giveaways, and this round is a retro-style first-person shooter from a studio called v0lt. It came out about two years ago, normally sells for €5.19, and until September 23 at 8:00 PM Greek time you can claim it for free.
The important part: once it’s in your library, it stays there. No trial window, no subscription catch. Add it and it’s yours forever.
What you’re getting
Deadshot wears its influences on its sleeve. The pixelated graphics are there to evoke the golden age of retro gaming, and the studio describes it as a first-person shooter inspired by Half-Life, DOOM and Quake. If you grew up strafing through brown corridors with a shotgun, you know exactly the flavor.
The setup, in the studio’s own words: “You wake up as an army soldier in the middle of an apocalypse filled with mutated monsters, trying to figure out what on earth happened while mowing down everything in your path.”
Mystery on one side, mutants on the other, and a lot of ammo in between. It’s not trying to reinvent anything, and for a free shooter with a Quake-shaped heart, that’s a feature.
The clock is running
The deal ends September 23 at 8:00 PM (Greek time). After that, Deadshot goes back to its regular €5.19 price. A few euros isn’t a lot, but free is free, and the claim takes about as long as reading this sentence.
Open Steam, find Deadshot, hit add to library. Done. Even if you don’t plan to play it this week, it’ll be waiting the next time you’re in the mood for something loud, fast and unapologetically old-school.
