Splinterlands is a collectible trading card game in which cards, packs and other assets are blockchain items that players own, trade, rent or burn rather than license from a publisher. That makes it closer to a deckbuilding puzzle than a tactics game, and it is the single fact most likely to decide whether you stay.

What works is the ownership layer: cards, packs and rentals are on-chain assets on Hive, and unwanted cards burn into DEC rather than sitting dead in a collection. Renting also means a competitive team does not require buying one outright. What does not work as well is the on-ramp.
