Rockstar Games still won’t say who’s in Grand Theft Auto VI, and by all appearances it doesn’t plan to before the game ships.
The latest wrinkle comes from a podcast. James Jarvis of GTA VI O’Clock said, citing “exclusive information,” that Rockstar has been messaging every cast member to remind them of their NDAs. According to that report, the actors have been told not to reveal anything before November 19th, the day the game becomes available.
To be clear about what this is: an unverified report from a podcast, not a Rockstar statement. Rockstar hasn’t said a word about the cast, which is sort of the whole point.
The cast is leaking anyway
It’s highly probable Rockstar will officially unveil the cast when GTA 6 releases. But the silence hasn’t held. There are already plenty of rumors, reports and even official statements from actors themselves.
Stephen Root of Widow’s Bay is the clearest example. He recently said in an interview that he’s part of the cast, though he didn’t share further details. That’s the actor confirming his involvement, nothing more.
Everything past that is fan speculation. The theory is that he’ll play Brian Heder, an elderly drug dealer turned “fixer” (a middleman for specialized jobs, the kind you don’t put on a resume). Root hasn’t confirmed a role, and neither has Rockstar.
Who Brian Heder is supposed to be
The character reportedly serves as a mentor to the protagonist, Jason Duval, and is expected to play a significant role in the story. Treat that as a report, not a plot summary, because Rockstar hasn’t confirmed any of it.
If the casting is right, it’s a good fit. You know Root from Barry and Widow’s Bay, and from dozens of other projects including Office Space, NewsRadio and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. He’s the guy who steals scenes without appearing to try.
GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19th for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Until then, the actors are apparently under orders to keep quiet, and Root has already said just enough to make that awkward.
