Exploration game idea from ArkDev
ArkDev has outlined a vision for a new exploration game after the collapse of HYTOPIA. This free-to-play concept draws elements from Minecraft, RuneScape, and Path of Exile, focusing on character progression and an equipment-driven economy.
At the heart of the proposal is a permanent home world where players can build, store items, and craft gear. This central hub evolves with the player’s character, providing a foundation for growth and exploration.
Players will launch expeditions into 1024-by-1024 environments generated at random. These worlds would contain diverse biomes, wildlife, caves, ruins, and dungeons. An NPC caravan guide facilitates access to these expeditions, enabling players to discover materials and equipment before venturing back home.
Risk management is central to gameplay. Players must decide when to return, as dying during an expedition results in the loss of all collected resources, while equipment and skills remain intact. This mechanism allows for high stakes without jeopardizing overall character development.
Skill advancement mirrors RuneScape, with abilities like mining, fishing, and crafting growing through use, and players could reach a maximum level of 99. Improved skills would enhance movement, survival, and resource gathering capabilities.
An equipment system inspired by Path of Exile introduces random modifiers on items, allowing for increased utility in gameplay. Players can obtain gear through exploration or crafting, and items can be traded amongst players.
The team plans to include both handcrafted dungeons and challenges that offer goals and rewards, enhancing character strength and item acquisition.
The game is proposed to support both browser and mobile platforms, allowing solo play or cooperative sessions with up to eight players. Characters and equipment would be consistent across these multiplayer experiences.
This refined concept builds on lessons learned from NFTs Worlds, which evolved into HYTOPIA following Minecraft’s restrictions on blockchain in July 2022. While HYTOPIA aimed to create a complex standalone platform, it faced challenges in execution, leading to this new exploratory phase.
ArkDev’s vision provides a fresh direction but awaits community input before moving forward.
