In Brief:

  • Chainlink has been named the official price oracle for Open Standard’s OUSD stablecoin.
  • This integration will enhance lending markets and trading applications using OUSD.
  • OUSD launched on September 30, backed by over 200 financial institutions, including major players like Coinbase and Visa.

Chainlink to provide price oracle for OUSD

Chainlink’s integration as the official price oracle for Open Standard’s OUSD stablecoin is poised to streamline its functionality across decentralized finance applications. This collaboration not only improves pricing accuracy but also enhances the competitiveness of OUSD in the evolving stablecoin market.

On September 30, OUSD went live across four networks: Base, Ethereum, Solana, and Tempo, with Coinbase access beginning on October 1. Issued by Bridge, a company under Stripe, OUSD offers zero-cost minting and burning mechanics, along with shared rewards tied to on-chain finance activity. Each token is pegged one-to-one with the US dollar, supported by reserves at institutions like BlackRock and BNY.

OUSD adoption and implications

Chainlink’s oracles will supply the necessary pricing data to applications that utilize OUSD, which is vital for lending protocols where accurate collateral pricing is imperative. Notably, an Aave Labs proposal is pending for adding OUSD lending functionality, awaiting final risk parameters influenced by Chainlink’s feeds.

The consortium model of Open Standard distinguishes it from traditional stablecoins. Unlike a single entity controlling yields from reserves, participating partners, which include Stripe, Mastercard, and Visa, share the value generated by OUSD. The network rapidly expanded from 140 to over 200 participating financial institutions.

Why choice of oracle is crucial

The selection of Chainlink as the pricing oracle provides a standardized data source, easing integration for protocols using OUSD. Consistency in pricing feeds simplifies risk assessment, enabling smoother onboarding for the stablecoin across multiple platforms.

Chainlink already dominates as the primary oracle in decentralized finance, including its role with Aave. This alignment allows OUSD to easily engage with existing infrastructures without the need for each protocol to source its own pricing.

Impact on web3 gaming

While OUSD primarily serves payments and finance, it has implications for web3 gaming. With partners like Stripe and Visa managing a significant volume of in-game transactions, the stablecoin’s zero-cost minting could facilitate easier acceptance of stablecoin payments for games. Launching on popular networks like Base and Ethereum positions OUSD as a viable option for studios managing tournament payouts or marketplace pricing.

As this ecosystem grows, Chainlink’s reliable price feeds make it easier for games to incorporate OUSD as a stable collateral option from the outset. “Open Standard is not just about payments; it’s about creating a globally accessible financial ecosystem that benefits everyone involved,” a representative stated.
