Pixels opened a blind auction at its Seaside Stash Store on Oct. 2. It’s the first time the store has run one, and five prize types are up for bid.

The lots are one Apiary, one Adult Duck, one Adult Goat, one “Host Your Own Energy Party” event and 10 Integrated NFT Avatars. The studio announced the auction on X and published the full details in its Pixels Post newsletter.

How bidding works

The store sells five types of chits, one for each prize. Players can buy as many chits as they want for any item and keep them in their inventory. They don’t need to consume the chits or put them anywhere.

Players can’t see what anyone else is buying. “This is a blind auction: there is no display in-game of what others are buying. Will you play it safe, or go big?” the Pixels Post said.

The auction closes Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. UTC. The chits come off the Seaside Stash shelves at that point, and players’ chits will be removed once winners are posted.

Losing bidders get their Buoy Bucks back, less a 3% fee. The Pixels Post said the fee is the same for every auction in this store refresh.

Payouts and prizes

Pixels will announce winners the following week. Winning items and refunds go to players’ in-game mailboxes.

The NFT prizes work differently. Avatar winners will receive their NFTs directly in the wallet attached to their Pixels account. “The 10 avatars will be chosen at random from the Pixels marketing wallets and sent out at random to winners,” the Pixels Post said.

The Energy Party winner will hear from the team on Discord to plan the event. According to the post, it “can take place on any land in Pixels, closed or open.”

New cosmetics

The refresh also added items to the Under the Sea collection. Nothing from the previous drop has been removed.

The new stock includes an Under the Sea-themed skin for NFT Land Silos and a matching Pond skin. There’s also an Under the Sea Turtle, which gives land 5,000 discoverability points for 30 days.

The remaining items are decor: a PIXELS sign and an Anchor, both with ocean sounds, plus Teal Palm Trees and an Under the Sea Clam.

Other changes

Pixels also shipped several changes to the in-game economy alongside the store update. It adjusted T5 recipes and increased T5 demand on the Taskboard.

Business tasks in Merchant Ships contracts and on the Taskboard were also adjusted. And players now need 2,000 Reputation points to buy or trade Guild Shards.

Background

The Seaside Stash Store sits on the docks south of Terra Villa, past the beach and to the left of the Harbourmaster. The newsletter framed the refresh as a return visit from “the merchants from under the sea.”

The X announcement had 522 views when the Pixels Post embedded it. The newsletter’s note on the new clam decoration was brief: “go on, click it. Trust us.”
