In Brief:

  • HeartChess beat the Stage 1 champion in last week’s Anichess streamer final. Neither player is in Sunday’s field.
  • Stage 3 puts eight streamers on Twitch at 17:00 UTC Sunday, with 10,000 $CHECK going to the winner.
  • With both finalists out, Anichess said Stage 3 “crowns someone brand new.”

Anichess’s streamer competition will have a first-time winner on Sunday. The two players who met in last week’s final won’t be playing.

HeartChess beat the Stage 1 champion in that final, Anichess said in a post on X. The post didn’t name the Stage 1 champion or give a score.

“Neither of them plays on Sunday, so Stage 3 crowns someone brand new,” the post said.

The Stage 3 format

Stage 3 is a one-day event with eight streamers. It’s broadcast on Twitch and starts at 17:00 UTC Sunday. The winner takes 10,000 $CHECK.

Anichess didn’t name the eight players in the post and didn’t say how the bracket or pairings will work.

An earlier Anichess post about its Streamers League used the same terms: “Eight streamers, one stage, 10,000 $CHECK to whoever wins it. Live on Twitch, 17:00 UTC.”

Anichess replied to its own tournament post with a link to its staking migration page at anichess.com/staking/migrate. The shortened link in the thread goes to the same page.

The post didn’t give a timeline for the migration, say which contracts are involved or explain whether it connects to the tournament prizes. The page itself showed no details when it was checked.

A crowded tournament calendar

The streamer series is one of several $CHECK competitions Anichess is running at the same time.

The team announced a Masters League on Sept. 29. Its top prize is 100,000 $CHECK, which was worth about $1,230 when it was announced. The Gambit Series has a 10,000 $CHECK leaderboard each round. Every match costs 100 $CHECK to enter and earns 100 points, and a three-win streak adds another 100.

Streamers have been part of that schedule before. In August, Anichess ran a two-hour Twitch arena for four chess streamers: Anna-Maja Kazarian, Lile Koridze, ToshQueen and Afrchess. That event centered on the Pengu Blast spell. It drops up to three explosives across the third through sixth ranks, and three turns later they clear every piece in the blast zone.

Before Magnus Carlsen’s event in Hong Kong in June, Anichess also ran a “Road to Magnus” qualifying series. Players competed in it for a chance to play alongside him.

Background

Anichess is an Animoca Brands subsidiary and an official Chess.com partner. It was developed with Carlsen, a five-time world champion. Players use $CHECK for tournament entry, staking, rewards and governance.

Earlier streamer events also aired on Twitch at 17:00 UTC on Sundays. Stage 3 keeps that slot. The two players who took the most recent title fight to the final won’t be in it.
