In Brief:
- EVE Frontier (official site) will run Feral Surge, a weeklong community event, starting Oct. 20.
- Kills by players count toward a goal shared by the whole server. Players can also complete missions, earn Grace and search wreckage.
- The event lands in the middle of Cycle 7: Vestiges, the cycle that began Sept. 29 and rebuilt the game’s Feral Drones.
EVE Frontier will open Feral Surge on Oct. 20. The weeklong combat event pushes players out of their Refuges to hunt Feral Drones, and every kill counts toward one goal for the whole community.
“FERAL SURGE begins 20 October. A week-long event where every kill brings the community closer to its shared goal,” the EVE Frontier team said in a post on X.
A FERAL TIDE IS RISING.
Arm your ship. Leave your Refuge. Hunt them down.
FERAL SURGE begins 20 October. A week-long event where every kill brings the community closer to its shared goal.
Complete missions. Earn Grace. Search the wreckage.
Every kill counts.
The post didn’t give the size of the kill target. It also didn’t say what players get if the community reaches it.
Missions, Grace and wreckage
The announcement listed three activities: “Complete missions. Earn Grace. Search the wreckage.”
Grace is the reward players collect during the event. The post didn’t say how much Grace a mission or a kill pays out, or what loot the wreckage holds.
“Arm your ship. Leave your Refuge. Hunt them down,” the team said.
The event page on the official EVE Frontier site carries the title “Ferality Suppression Surge.” Its tagline reads “Help us break the servers!” As of Friday, the page didn’t list dates, mechanics or rewards.
Drones that play by player rules
The targets are a different enemy from the drones of earlier cycles. Cycle 7: Vestiges launched Sept. 29, and Fenris Creations rebuilt the Feral Drones so they follow the same rules as players.
Drones now scan, travel, mine, salvage and scavenge for resources. They also react to what players do around them.
Cycle 7 also overhauled flight. Ships can strafe and roll, and a new Aim Flight mode separates steering from weapon aiming. Thrusters and engines now shape a ship’s acceleration, fuel efficiency and handling.
The cycle added physical docking, where ships latch onto structure ports and stay visible in space. It also brought multi-star systems that stack environmental hazards, and it reset the universe for new and returning players.
Mid-cycle update still pending
Feral Surge arrives before Cycle 7’s mid-cycle release. On Oct. 14 the team said “We’re well in to Cycle 7 now, and the work continues towards the mid-cycle release!”
The studio’s July video roadmap set that October patch for full ship and structure modularity, temporary teams and shared storage. That roadmap scheduled Cycle 8 for December, with a focus on community and social tools.
Background
EVE Frontier is still in paid Founder Access. The server is wiped at the end of each cycle. The game’s FAQ says “The launch date of EVE Frontier has not yet been announced,” and the game is confirmed to be free to play at launch.
The game moved onto Sui on March 11, when Cycle 5: Shroud of Fear went live. Cycle 6: Sanctuary followed June 25 with a full wipe and a five-day free trial.
The developer changed its name to Fenris Creations on May 6, a week after Pearl Abyss sold CCP Games back to the studio’s leadership. Google took a minority stake as part of the deal.
Fenris and Sui ran an $80,000 EVE Frontier hackathon in March. More than 800 people took part and built over 120 projects. The $25,000 grand prize went to CradleOS by modder Reality Anchor, a system that lets players run their own civilizations.
The Feral Surge announcement ended on four words: “Every kill counts.”
