In Brief:

  • GensoKishi Online (official site) is targeting Dec. 1, 2026 to reopen, according to a post from the official @genso_meta account. The game’s Nov. 8 notice puts the target at December 2026.
  • The team still has to finish system development, a legal compliance review and the handover tied to a change in operators. It plans to announce the official reopening date and time once they’re confirmed.
  • Planned or proposed updates include a returning Defense Battle with a seasonal version to follow, an NFT Encyclopedia, location-based “Local Gifts” NFTs and an Alchemy system that burns unused NFTs.

The linked notice on the game’s site is dated Nov. 8, 2026. It says the team is “now targeting a service reopening in December 2026” and will announce the official date and time once they’ve been confirmed.

What’s holding up the restart

The notice says system development is only part of the work. It lists “a wide range of coordination” that still has to be done, “including reviewing compliance with applicable laws and completing the handover associated with the change in operators.”

“We sincerely apologize for keeping you waiting,” the notice said. “As these preparations have progressed, the path toward reopening has become clearer.”

The team also cautioned that the feature list mixes planned development with ideas still under consideration. “This does not mean that all of these features will be available when service resumes,” the notice said. It said details on launch content and the timing of each update would follow as preparations progress.

Defense Battle comes back first, then gets rebuilt

Defense Battle is the most concrete item on the list. The team said it had considered keeping the mode on hold until a new version was ready. Then it reversed course.

“However, after hearing from so many players who wanted to enjoy it again, we have decided to bring back Defense Battle in its current format ahead of the overhaul,” the notice said.

The revamped mode will add a seasonal system with more weight on ranking competition, according to the notice. The team said it will review the reward structure for both first-time participants and teams aiming for the top. It also wants players to spend less time gathering materials and handling complicated preparations.

There’s a catch for existing guilds. The notice said the new version will substantially change systems including skill slots and materials. As a result, “guild skill slots, materials, and other elements associated with the current Defense Battle will not carry over to the new version and will be reset.”

Encyclopedia, Local Gifts and Alchemy

The other three features are less defined.

The Encyclopedia is a planned collection system. Players would register NFTs to “earn rewards such as titles, NFTs, and buffs,” which the notice describes as effects that boost a player’s abilities.

Local Gifts is the team’s working idea for tying collecting to travel. Under the concept, players could get location-specific NFTs by visiting real-world tourist attractions and businesses. The notice frames it as something being explored, not a scheduled feature.

Alchemy would let players consume unused NFTs as crafting materials to make new ones. The notice said the feature responds to player requests for a way to burn NFTs, and it would create new demand inside the game’s economy.

The team summed up its goal this way: “we are working to make GensoKishi a game you can enjoy for years to come.”

From shutdown notice to handover

The December target follows a rocky 2026 for the MMORPG. The game was first slated to shut down its servers on April 30, 2026. In-app purchases ended Feb. 27.

That plan shifted in April. A notice changed the closure to a temporary suspension starting April 30 so a new service could be prepared. MV Staking ended on April 30, and the LAND feature was frozen the same day.

Later that month, @genso_meta posted that “GensoKishi Online has signed an MOU for the planned operational transfer to a new operator.” The post said the “current focus is improving service sustainability and executing a reboot plan to optimize costs and revenue.” The incoming operator is Hanabitei Inc., which now holds the copyright line on the official site.

That early roadmap pointed to a new service around August to September 2026. It didn’t happen. Instead, the site’s news log shows a notice on Oct. 11 discontinuing MV Wallet login. Two days before the reopening notice, on Nov. 6, the team announced that a revamped GENSO Marketplace had returned, with new LR and SR release details.

The Nov. 8 notice describes the new Defense Battle as a place where players can “Spend less time preparing and more time enjoying challenges and competition with your friends.”
