$CHECK launches on Coinbase

$CHECK is now available for trading on Coinbase and the Coinbase app, marking a significant milestone for the Anichess ecosystem developed by Animoca Brands in collaboration with Chess.com. The token went live on April 2, 2026, shortly after its debut on the WEEX exchange on March 25, where it achieved a trading volume of $20.98 million against an $11.16 million market cap on day one. The Coinbase listing fueled a 60% price increase on the announcement day.

Utility and governance features

The $CHECK token serves multiple functions within the Checkmate ecosystem, including utility and governance roles. With a total supply of 1 billion, more than 59% is designated for community and ecosystem growth. Players can use $CHECK for entering tournaments, staking to earn Mate Points (M8), and purchasing in-game items. Furthermore, token holders can participate in governance decisions through Checkmate Improvement Proposals.

The infrastructure supporting $CHECK is multi-chain. The Abstract Chain manages staking and M8 generation, while Base facilitates trading on Aerodrome Finance. Players can bridge tokens for trading or gameplay purposes.

Gambit Mode introduces competitive incentives

Before the Coinbase listing, Anichess activated Gambit Mode, a competitive feature enabling players to compete for 250,000 CHECK in weekly rewards. This approach ties token demand to player performance, promoting active engagement over passive holding. Season 7, set for Q2 2026, will feature tournament entry fees and rewards, enhancing the utility of $CHECK within the game.

Future expansion plans

Looking ahead, the Anichess team aims to extend the Checkmate ecosystem into a multi-game network throughout 2026 and 2027. This initiative seeks to utilize $CHECK across various community-owned strategy games, broadening its application and influence.

In March 2026, a collaboration was announced with Alibaba Cloud for the AliBAE platform, which integrates AI tools for Web3 content creation. As part of this launch, 100,000 CHECK was allocated for bounty rewards in two campaigns, both set to conclude on April 8, 2026.
