Hellmaster
Hellmaster
Overview
Hellmaster is a free-to-play, card-based strategy RPG developed by Dante Games. It blends tactical deck-building with role-playing elements set in a world inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy. Players choose from a lineup of mythological heroes and fight through the nine circles of Hell using a mix of spells, equipment, and card combinations.
Gameplay and Features
Hellmaster blends elements of a collectible card game with the structure of a tactical RPG. Players begin by selecting a hero and customizing their loadout with spells, equipment, pets, and other tools that influence their performance. Battles are turn-based and revolve around forming strong card combinations, similar to poker, while also managing hero actions, casting spells, and fighting demons that appear on the board.

At the heart of the game is the hero system. Players choose from 15 different heroes, each belonging to a specific class and equipped with a unique ability. The hero’s class determines which spells and runes are available throughout progression. Once a hero reaches level 3, they unlock a personal spellbook that can store up to eight spells. These spells can be acquired through leveling up or earned from in-game events and challenges.

Each hero can also be equipped with a variety of items, including weapons, shields, pets, charms, and even support abilities from deities. These pieces affect core stats like attack, defense, initiative, health, and morale. During combat, players combine card play with direct hero actions. Victory is achieved either by collecting all of the opponent’s gems or reducing their hero’s health to zero.
Game Modes:
- Adventure: PvE-focused mode where players level up heroes, unlock content, and battle through the nine circles of Hell.
- Battle Arena: PvP mode where you can compete for Souls, a key in-game resource. Requires Souls to enter, which are tied to the game’s token ($DANTE).
- Hellmaster Arena: Special weekly tournament mode with larger rewards. Requires Keys, which can be earned or traded.
- Training: Practice mode against AI where you can test builds without losing resources.
NFTs and Blockchain
Hellmaster has integrated Web3 features through the Dante Games ecosystem, but these are optional. Players who choose to engage with the win-to-earn side can acquire and trade NFT versions of heroes, pets, spell cards, and equipment.

The game uses the $DANTE token for purchasing Souls (needed for certain modes), staking for special tournament access, and acquiring NFT packs. A circular economy model supports in-game rewards, with mechanisms to avoid inflation and speculative traps. Players can earn shards to redeem NFT packs or keys, and trade assets via the Dante Games marketplace or on Immutable.

Our verdict on Hellmaster
Hellmaster is a free-to-play card battler from Dante Games that borrows its setting from Dante's Divine Comedy, sending you through the nine circles of Hell with one of 15 class-bound mythological heroes. It is closer to a tactical RPG than a pure deck-builder: turns mix poker-like card combinations with direct hero actions, spell casts, and demons that spawn on the board, and a match ends when you take all of an opponent's gems or drop their hero to zero health.
The depth sits in the loadout. Weapons, shields, pets, charms, and deity blessings each move stats such as initiative and morale, and a hero who reaches level 3 opens an eight-slot spellbook filled by leveling or by events. Adventure and Training cost nothing to enter, which matters, because the competitive tiers do not: Battle Arena is gated behind Souls bought with the $DANTE token, and the weekly Hellmaster Arena needs Keys. That is the sharpest limitation here — the mode with the real rewards is the one you have to fund, and the NFT layer of heroes, pets, and spell cards trades on Immutable rather than staying cosmetic.
Worth a look if you like combo-heavy card combat with RPG progression and are content to live in the PvE circles. Anyone allergic to token-gated ladders should know the paywall arrives at the competitive end, and the game is still in beta on PC and mobile.
