What is Illuvium: Zero?
Illuvium: Zero is a city-building and economic strategy game from Illuvium Labs, set in the Illuvium universe. Players design and expand a city on their land plots, allocate resources and balance what they extract against what the market demands. Blockchain support lets players own, buy and sell in-game assets. The game was first released on the App Store on July 24, 2024. It is free to download, with optional in-app credit packs.
How to play
Players start on a plot, place buildings and manage production to grow their local economy. Trade decisions matter because the economy is market driven. Since launch, updates have added Megacities, which combine adjacent plots into one larger city, and Blueprint Minting. The game also produces fuel, and an update fixed fuel transfers from Zero to Illuvium Overworld, which links the city builder to the wider Illuvium game. A Fuel Burn feature arrived in March 2025, and the game also offers free-to-play plots.
Updates and platforms
The App Store listing covers iPhone and iPad on iOS 12 or later, Macs with Apple silicon and Apple Vision. A Weekly Leaderboard was added in May 2025, and a later update lets players view other users' plots from the leaderboards. The game has received regular maintenance releases, with version 1.8.9 published on May 8, 2026, after updates in January, February, March and April of the same year.
Our verdict
Illuvium: Zero is the city-builder arm of the wider Illuvium project, built on Immutable X and playable on both mobile and PC. Rather than combat or collection, the loop here is land development: you claim a plot, mine it for resources, and work through blueprints that unlock further construction. It is filed under casual, but the framing is play-and-own, meaning the land and what you produce on it are meant to hold value outside the client.
What works is the accessibility. A resource-and-timer city builder is one of the few genres that genuinely suits a phone, and pairing it with a PC client means progress does not strand you on one device. Immutable X as the settlement layer also keeps the on-chain side out of the way for anyone who does not want to think about gas.
What is less clear from the pitch is depth. City builders live or die on whether the blueprint tree keeps giving you decisions after the first few hours, and a resource-mining loop can flatten into waiting once the novelty passes. Nothing in the available material spells out how the economy is balanced or how land scarcity is handled.
It suits players already invested in the Illuvium ecosystem, and anyone who wants a low-pressure builder with asset ownership attached rather than a demanding strategy game.
