What is Moonray?
Moonray is a third-person action game with a distinctive surreal, hand-crafted art direction, built by Moonray Studios. Its history is a useful illustration of how quickly Web3 games change footing: it was announced as the first Bitcoin metaverse game on Stacks, the Bitcoin layer 2, raised 3.5 million dollars on that pitch, then pivoted both its design and its chain β refocusing from open-world RPG toward competitive multiplayer combat and moving its on-chain layer to Ethereum because the infrastructure demands of the new design could not be met on the old one. The studio has raised more than 10 million dollars in total since 2021, with Animoca Brands and Republic among its backers, and now ships a multiplayer action arena game rather than the RPG originally described.
How to play Moonray
Moonray is a PC game first, distributed through the Epic Games Store, and it plays as an ordinary action title β you download it and fight other players in arena combat, with the Web3 layer sitting to one side rather than in the way. The studio has been widening platforms from there: a PlayStation 5 version arrived in 2025, notably launching without crypto features at all because of Sony's platform policies, and a mobile auto-battler using the same characters has been announced as a separate product. That split is worth knowing before you start, because which build you pick determines whether the on-chain layer is present at all.
Moonray tokenomics & earning
The native token is MNRY, an ERC-20 asset on Ethereum, which listed on centralised exchanges including Bybit, KuCoin, Gate.io and MEXC and is the unit the game's economy is denominated in. Character and cosmetic NFTs sit alongside it. The honest caveat is the console situation: because the PS5 release ships with no crypto features, the earning layer is not a universal part of the game but a property of the PC version, and Moonray has been willing to drop it entirely to reach a bigger platform. Treat MNRY as an exchange-traded ecosystem token rather than a guaranteed in-game yield, and check the studio's documentation for which build carries which features.
