A Slovenian retailer appears to have posted a product page for a Google item tracker that Google hasn’t announced, doesn’t officially sell and reportedly didn’t exist a few weeks ago.
That’s the state of things ahead of Google’s hardware event on August 12th. 9to5Google obtained an image of a small, oval device called the “Google Pixel Tag,” and linked to the Slovenian store listing describing it as an item tracker with a speaker that runs on Google’s “Find My Device” network, now called Find Hub.
The listing says more than Google has
Here’s the machine translation of the Pixel Tag description from that Slovenian page:
“The Google Pixel Tag smart tracker helps you quickly and reliably locate your lost items using the secure ‘Find My Device’ network.
Never waste time searching for your keys, wallet or luggage again. Google Pixel Tag is a compact, lightweight and durable smart tracker that attaches discreetly to your most important items. Using Google’s extensive and secure ‘Find My Device’ network, you can always check the exact location of your belongings via your smartphone. The tracker is equipped with a loud speaker for easy nearby search and is designed with your privacy and personal data in mind.”
Read that again and notice what isn’t in it. No price. No battery life figure. No mention of ultra-wideband, which is the specific piece of hardware that makes Apple’s AirTag point you down a hallway instead of vaguely beeping at you from under a couch cushion. No dimensions, no water resistance rating, no attachment method beyond “attaches discreetly.”
It reads like copy written from a spec sheet nobody outside Google has seen yet. Which is roughly what retail listings tend to be before launch day.
This isn’t the first time the name surfaced
Earlier this month, 9to5Google spotted early Pixel 11 listings that mentioned a Google Pixel Tag. The publication’s own note at the time: “no such tracker exists right now.”
A name showing up in retail metadata twice, from different directions, is a stronger signal than a single render. It’s still not an announcement.
The rest of the August 12th slate
Google has already teased the Pixel 11 lineup for the event. Leaks have also pointed to a new foldable, a smartwatch and earbuds. A tracker would slot into that lineup as the cheapest thing on stage and the only one that competes directly with an Apple accessory that’s been shipping since 2021.
Google didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
What to watch for on the 12th
The interesting question isn’t whether Google makes a tracker. It’s whether the hardware justifies one existing separately from the dozens of third-party tags that already work with Find Hub. Chipolo and Pebblebee have been shipping Find My Device-compatible tags for over a year.
So when Google gets on stage, the spec worth listening for is UWB support. If the Pixel Tag ships without it, the pitch is a Google logo on a category Google already handed to partners. If it ships with it, Android finally gets the precise-finding experience iPhone owners have had for four years.
The listing mentions a speaker. It doesn’t mention a radio.
