Grand Theft Auto 6 hasn’t sold a single copy that anyone can play yet. Somehow it has still made an estimated $630 million (Rs. 5,950 crore).
That figure comes from analytics firm Sensor Tower, which estimates the game has racked up 6.45 million pre-orders across PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. It’s an outside estimate. Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, haven’t released pre-order numbers of their own, so treat it as a strong signal and not an official tally.
PlayStation is doing most of the lifting
The platform split is lopsided. Sensor Tower estimates PS5 accounts for 74 percent of pre-orders and Xbox for 26 percent.
In unit terms, the PS5 version has reportedly sold 4.8 million times and brought in $468 million. The Xbox version is at an estimated 1.66 million copies and $162 million. If you were wondering where Rockstar’s Vice City crowd lives, it’s mostly on Sony hardware.
Take-Two won’t give numbers, but it’s clearly happy
The company hasn’t put a figure on it, but it hasn’t kept quiet either. On the Q1 FY2027 earnings call in August, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick called the game’s early pre-order performance “exceptional.” Later, answering questions, he went further and called the numbers “unprecedented.”
In a CNBC interview after the call, Zelnick said pre-orders had passed the company’s expectations. He also said demand for the $100 Ultimate Edition was higher than expected. (The Standard Edition costs $80, so a lot of people have decided the extra $20 is worth it before seeing a minute of gameplay.)
The early numbers were already a record
Sensor Tower isn’t the only firm watching the money. Market research firm Newzoo said in a report published in mid-July that GTA 6 had the best opening week of any pre-order campaign, with an estimated $180 million (approximately Rs. 1,734 crore) in digital pre-order revenue.
Newzoo’s bigger projection is for launch week. It estimates the game could earn between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion worldwide in its first week, which might also be a record. That’s a forecast, and the firm’s own wording is that it “might” happen.
Miami is getting the full Vice City treatment
The marketing has also moved into the real city the game is parodying. Fans spotted new GTA 6 marketing around Miami, including themed Metrorail pillars, a Burger Shot ad and a Vice City sign in Wynwood, in sightings credited to TK/Pierce Tetlow and Benji RR.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on November 19, 2026. Pre-orders are open now on the digital PlayStation and Xbox stores, where 6.45 million people have reportedly already paid.
