In Brief:

  • MattleFun released v4.0.0, which it called the first wave of its anniversary update.
  • The patch adds a Birthday Party theme, a skin system tied to the Shop that also boosts stats, a new character selection UI and new sound effects and animations.
  • The team said more updates are coming under the #MATTLETurnOneUp banner. It didn’t give a date.

MattleFun has pushed version 4.0.0 of its game, the first wave of what the team is calling its anniversary update.

The release is titled “The Celebration Begins” and brings four changes: a Birthday Party theme, a new skin system, a reworked character selection UI and new sound effects and animations.

“More surprises coming soon,” the team said in its announcement on X, tagging the post #MATTLETurnOneUp.

Skins now carry stats

The skin system is the one change that affects gameplay. Players get skins through the in-game Shop, and the team said skins also boost stats. So they aren’t purely cosmetic.

MattleFun didn’t publish per-skin stat values, prices or the currency skins cost. It also didn’t say which characters get skins in this first wave.

The new character selection screen ships alongside the skin system. The update notes don’t give any more detail on it.

How the game works

Mattle Run is the platform’s first title. It’s a vampire-survival game where players dodge waves of monsters and try to last as long as possible, across Normal, Hard and Cursed difficulty modes.

Trading is built into the game. Players connect a Solana wallet, and the volume they trade through the platform’s terminal becomes Boosting Points. Those points raise character traits like Health, Armor, Speed and Luck.

Points earned in matches turn into MATTLE tokens. Players can play Mattle Run for free, but free players have limited features and can’t convert points into MATTLE.

The Mattle Game Pass costs 0.03 SOL. It grants 20 energy a day for Mattle Run. The Shop also sells perks that raise daily energy or multiply the points earned in each match.

Shop changes before the update

The Shop has changed several times recently. In an earlier update, MattleFun moved Medal packages from the MATTLE Shop to the SOL Shop. It also opened a separate Medal Shop, whose first items were Pengu, Player2 and GibMeme.

According to the project’s token materials, MATTLE can pay for energy refills, stat boosts and point multipliers, and can buy exclusive character traits or skins.

Background

Soluna Labs built MattleFun, and the project won the Solana Mobile hackathon. The game has an Android version on Google Play and is available on the Seeker phone. The Android listing mentions daily energy, an Auto Run mode that keeps earning while the player is away and a Risk Multiplier for players who take higher risks for bigger point rewards.

The anniversary update’s first wave closed with a single line from the team: “More surprises coming soon.”
