Planetary Defense opens Beta V3 as Magor strategy game widens past land defense

Planetary Defense launched Beta V3, moving the Magor strategy game onto a rebuilt site at beta.planetarydefense.io.

Alien Worlds published the release alongside an interview with MjaM, who described how the project evolved out of a Land Defense concept into a broader strategy experience organized around teamwork, NFT utility, missions, bosses, PvP and community-driven design.

What the beta includes

The V3 build asks players to connect a WAX wallet, pick a leader and build a military division out of NFT creatures, weapons and supplies.

Missions pay rewards and open new territories. Community raids carry larger payouts, and players can attack rival lands to take resources and climb the leaderboard, or defend their own holdings against incoming raids.

Staked NFT lands generate resources. Players forge equipment and trade it on the game’s marketplace.

The wider premise hasn’t changed. Landowners build defenses while mercenaries join raids or hire out as protection, and players work through PvE threats and PvP battles while running missions for Planetary Defense Token, or PDT. Payouts are influenced by vote power and chest upgrades.

How PvP works

Combat runs on chests holding PDT. Every three days the player sitting on the most PDT becomes the primary target.

That opens a 48-hour defense phase, during which the targeted player can acquire more NFTs and enlist allies to raise a defense score. A 24-hour attack phase follows.

A successful defense earns 30 days of protection. If the defense fails, the chest is shared equally among the attackers.

What you need to play

Entry requires at least one Alien Worlds face NFT or one land from an eligible planet, at common rarity or above.

Faces act as commanders leading troops. Rarity determines how many crew slots a commander carries, and crew fill those slots automatically based on which ones provide the most advantage.

The game is non-custodial. Players keep their NFTs, and a program reviews the wallet for changes throughout the day and updates stats in real time.

Funding and background

Magor’s Custodians passed three proposals supporting Planetary Defense, allocating a total of 90,000 TLM. Alien Worlds pitched it at the time as a game supported by Magor’s Custodians and set within its own universe.

A later grant from the Alien Worlds community, with support from Galactic Hubs, green-lit the PvP mode and funded new utilities for Alien Worlds Avatars, which gain abilities and bonuses based on rarity and shine level. The same grant covered upgraded mission rewards, a redesigned website and expanded lore.

Planetary Defense started as a two-stage game on WAX. Stage one runs in Discord, where players complete missions for in-game coins, quantum keys and chests that can be minted to a WAX wallet at no cost. Stage two is the browser strategy game.

It began as a single isolated planet where players competed over currency and leaderboard standing, then grew into a six-planet game covering attacking, defending and collaborative challenges. Rewards pay out in PDT and TLM plus shard points that can be minted into usable NFTs. Warlords and Mercenaries NFTs supply bonuses.

By the first quarter of 2025 the game had entered its PvP phase, with real-time battles using NFT loadouts and strategic card builds, seasonal events and weekly challenges.

Funding for work like this comes through the planet DAOs, which can direct up to 25 percent of their mining reward pool toward community initiatives including tools, games, events and creative work.
