Starting Oct. 6, your PSN profile can look like a Spider-Man fan’s profile, for free.
Sony is giving PlayStation Plus subscribers five PSN profile icons to mark the digital release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Each one shows a character from the film: Spider-Man, MJ, Jean Grey, Ned Leeds and Frank Castle.
It’s a small perk. But it’s tied to the biggest movie of the year, and that matters to the kind of person who changes their avatar every time a trailer drops.
The catch is in a different app
You won’t find these in the PlayStation Store. They live in the Sony Pictures Core app, where you’ll have to follow a set of steps to unlock the avatars at no cost.
Not subscribed to Sony Pictures Core? You can still get them. You’ll just have to buy the digital version of Spider-Man: Brand New Day first to qualify.
That’s also where the movie itself makes its digital debut, so you can watch it at home and grab the icons in the same visit.
The movie that broke the box office
Brand New Day hit cinemas in July as the fourth film in the MCU Spider-Man series, following 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, dealing with powers that keep changing on him and a new telekinetic threat that puts New York itself at risk.
Zendaya and Jacob Batalon return too. The new faces are Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (so yes, the Punisher is now an avatar option, and plenty of people will pick him over Peter).
The numbers don’t leave much room for debate
It didn’t take long for the film to start setting records. It became the highest-grossing Spider-Man film and the highest-grossing film of 2026.
It’s also the highest-grossing film in the United States and Canada, and the third-highest grossing film of all time. That’s a lot of trophies for one movie.
The reviews were mostly positive too, so if you end up buying the digital copy just to unlock the icons, you probably won’t regret it.
Which one goes on your profile
The lineup covers the whole cast. There’s the hero, his two closest friends, the X-Men import and the guy with the skull on his chest.
Mark Oct. 6 on your calendar, open Sony Pictures Core and decide whether your PSN profile belongs to Ned Leeds or Frank Castle.
