In Brief:
- Sam Withers said Pocket Dragons is building its ecosystem around five core pillars, starting with GameFi and NFTs and collectibles.
- The collection will have 6,000 Dragons and 352 combinations, with burning, upgrades and exclusive 1/1s.
- The Solana project has run a slow, story-driven rollout through its Hatchery and hasn’t published a mint price or date.
Pocket Dragons will cap its collection at 6,000 Dragons, builder Sam Withers said in a post on X that set out the first two of the five pillars the project is organized around.
The NFT and collectibles pillar has 352 combinations across the supply. Withers listed burning, upgrades and exclusive 1/1s as part of that layer.
Welcome to the world of @Pocket_Dragons_
We're building an entire ecosystem around 5 core pillars.
GameFi – Play, collect, bond with your Dragons and unlock achievements.
NFTs & Collectibles – 6,000 Dragons, 352 combinations, burning, upgrades and exclusive 1/1s.
The GameFi pillar centers on playing with, collecting and bonding with Dragons, with achievements to earn along the way. “We’re building an entire ecosystem around 5 core pillars,” Withers said.
His post named only those two pillars. He didn’t describe the other three in it.
No mint details yet
The project hasn’t released a mint price or a mint date. Supply had not been confirmed publicly before the post.
Access to the mint runs through a whitelist. In a post pinned on Sept. 8, Withers told followers that if they wanted to get in early with Pocket Dragons and secure WL, that was probably their best chance.
He was sharing a project post written as an in-world dispatch. “Incubator #001 is active. For the first time in thousands of years, signs of life have been recorded,” it read.
The Hatchery
The project’s site at pocketdragons.io opens on “The Ancient Hatchery,” with links to the team, a leaderboard called the Keeper Ledger and a Creator Kit.
Withers said in an earlier post that the Hatchery would open that week, after a year of building. The project describes itself as a new category of collectibles it calls CollectFi.
Pocket Dragons has released its lore in installments. “I know this ain’t your normal go to market strategy for a NFT collection but we like to do things differently,” Withers said.
A community member posting as 0xRecep wrote on Oct. 11 that the project includes 2D PFPs, animated dragons, mini-games, eggs and a badge system. The writer said it gives users plenty to do before minting.
Team and community
Withers is based in Melbourne, and his X bio dates his time in crypto to 2016. He first announced the project in May, saying the team had been building quietly for nine months, and described it as original IP with multiple products already built.
He has said the project was “Built by a team of 4 with a vision, a lot of late nights, and an incredible community behind us.”
The weekly AMAs Withers hosts have drawn a growing crowd. He recently said 1,000 people had joined one session.
“1,000 PEOPLE IN THE @Pocket_Dragons_ AMA! 🔥 YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY!! Since we launched 6 weeks ago the energy, questions, and support from this community have been unreal. Thank you to everyone who shows up! ❤️” Withers said.
The project shares its name with Real Musgrave’s Pocket Dragons figurines, first sold in June 1989. Nothing in the public record links the two.
