A vampire angel tears out a crowd’s throats at a festival. A businessman’s tabby balloons to the size of a bus and starts one-shotting dungeon bosses. A scientist elbows past her sneering male colleagues to cut open a dead kaiju the size of a city.
Seven Seas Entertainment announced seven new manga licenses Wednesday, and the range across those seven is wide enough to be worth walking through one at a time.
The premise doing the most with the least
My House Cat Became the World’s Strongest?! (Sodachi Sugita Tama) lands in April 2027 with volume 1. Tamaki Yoshigae wrote the original novel, Hajime Yotsuyano handles the manga and LINO did the novel art.
Tetsuya works a miserable job at an exploitative company. His one bright spot is his housecat, Tama. He comes home one day to find Tama has grown to an absolutely gigantic size, and the cat promptly leads him to a nearby dungeon and effortlessly takes down the boss.
Tama carries his owner around at high speed. Tama grants empowering buffs by purring. The two of them save a beautiful young streamer, their dungeon-clearing livestreams go viral, and suddenly everyone’s watching the cat.
Two takes on dungeons showing up in the real world
Speaking of livestreams: Influencer Hero: After Saving Another World, I Got Rich Streaming Dungeons! (Isekai-gaeri no Yūha wa, Dungeon ga Shutsugen Shita Genjitsu Sekai de, Influencer ni Narimasu!) arrives in April 2027 from writer Y.A. and artist Pecomaru Osaki.
Ryoji spent 10 years in another world building up the power to kill an evil demon lord. He wants to go back to being a normal teen. Then dangerous dungeons start appearing in the real world.
He keeps his skills from the other world, but something about these dungeons is off and he’s the only one who can figure out what. His solution: help wannabe adventurers and pad his wallet at the same time by livestreaming his runs.
The other real-world-collapse book takes the opposite tack. Wandmaker of the Ruined World (Hōkai Sekai no Mahōzue Shokunin) comes in May 2027, adapted by Nori Kazato from Hagane Kurodome’s novel, with Kayahara on novel art.
A global blackout kills electricity overnight. Ori Kenshi, a shut-in inventor in the mountains of Okutama, made a quiet living crafting intricate devices and anime weapons from his workshop. He prefers machines to people.
Then a meteor crashes into his garden. He carves it into a wand to pass the time and learns that the meteors which wrecked the world’s power grids brought magic with them. Civilization falls apart. His handmade wand might be the key to whatever comes next.
The one where the extra ruins everything
The Berserker NPC Unknowingly Destroys the World (Kyōsenshi na Mobu, Mujikaku ni Honpen o Hakai Suru) hits February 2027, the earliest of the batch. Ryōsuke Satō adapts Narunoruna’s novel, with Eight Shimotsuki on novel art.
Albert is the youngest son of the Falconers, a family of noble warriors, and he’s been reincarnated into a video game. His memories of it are hazy. He’s a nameless background character who shouldn’t affect anything.
Al starts questioning his own existence, enrolls at the Radford Royal Academy of Magic and discovers he has more influence on this world than he could have imagined.
The kaiju book is the interesting one
The Kaiju Autopsy (Kaijū o Kaibō Suru) by Mado Saitō is a May 2027 release, and it’s the pitch here with the most going on.
Kaiju scientist Honda Akira gets called to the autopsy site of a colossal kaiju called Toukyo. The monster killed and destroyed plenty while alive. Now it’s dead. Maybe.
Honda wants to understand the unexplained activity around the corpse and stop future kaiju disasters. To do the research she has to fight the scorn of her male peers and the team members who want to destroy the body for safety’s sake. Then a new kaiju emerges from the corpse and comes after her.
And two with fangs
Suu Minazuki’s The Moon Cries at the Final Wish (Saigo no Negai ni Tsuki ga Naku) opens in May 2027 with the festival scene: childhood friends Shingetsu and Asahi are there when an angel appears, smiles, unfurls her bloodstained wings and rips into the throats of onlookers.
She’s a vampire. Their peaceful island home turns into a slaughterhouse, and Shingetsu learns he’s one of the Seven Luminaries, the group tasked with eliminating the vampiric threat.
Rounding out the seven is It’s a Secret, Shirotae-sama (Shirotae-sama, Himitsu Desu Yo) by Yukiko, coming May 2027 under the Seven Seas GL imprint. Utao Hananoi attends a prestigious academy for vampires. She’s human, which makes her food, so she keeps quiet about it.
Her secret gets found out anyway, and by the worst possible person: Shirotae, the progenitor of vampires. Shirotae offers to keep it. For now.
