Geralt of Rivia is showing up in Fortnite. Not in a Witcher game. In Fortnite, standing on key art next to Master Chief.
That’s the August 20 return, and it’s worth being clear about what it is and isn’t, because two Witcher 3 stories are running at the same time right now and they’re easy to tangle.
What’s actually landing on the 20th
Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 4, currently titled Override, launches August 20 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, iOS and Android. The chapter is tentatively expected to end in December of this year.
And instead of building a season around one franchise, Epic went wide. This one’s aimed at video games as a whole.
The season’s key artwork put Geralt front and center, joined by Lara Croft, Ryu, Master Chief and Sora, all of whom will be showing up in some capacity.
The map is doing the heavy lifting too
Key franchises in the collaboration aren’t just cosmetic. They’re being used to design map elements, with Sonic the Hedgehog‘s Green Hill Zone set to feature in some capacity.
There’s a Pac-Man-inspired area to explore. Mega Man and Eggman turn up in the trailer.
It’s the most ambitious season Fortnite has attempted, which is a sentence that gets thrown around every few months, except this time the guest list backs it up.

Now the DLC, which is a different thing entirely
The Witcher 3 released over a decade ago and it’s back in the conversation in a big way, because CD Projekt Red announced another full story DLC. Thousands of players are waiting to see what the studio has been cooking up.
It’s called Songs of the Past. There’s no release date beyond 2027.
We haven’t gotten a full reveal yet. What’s known is that it’s supposedly designed to bridge the narrative gap between the last game and the upcoming release of The Witcher 4, which will be fronted by Ciri.
Why Geralt’s timing here matters
Songs of the Past is currently positioned as his last DLC as protagonist of the series. So before what might be Geralt’s final appearance in the franchise, he’s popping up somewhere entirely different, joining a long pantheon of game characters who’ve made that journey before him.
More information might arrive at Gamescom later this month. CD Projekt Red may also hold off for their own dedicated moment and a proper full reveal.
Which means the next time you see Geralt, odds are he’ll be dropping out of a battle bus somewhere near Green Hill Zone.
