In Brief:

  • Upland (official site) said it has burned 2.9M SPARKLET, an amount players approved in a community vote.
  • It’s the second burn of its kind, following an earlier vote on roughly 1.9M SPARKLET spent in Q1 2026.
  • Upland said it will keep polling players on whether future spent SPARKLET should be burned.

Upland has burned 2.9M SPARKLET following a community vote, the company said Friday in a post on X.

“As voted for by all of you, we have now burned the 2.9M Sparklet,” Upland said. “This is the second time we’ve done this now, and we’ll keep polling you in the future to see if you want to keep doing so!”

Burn Complete
As voted for by all of you, we have now burned the 2.9M Sparklet. This is the second time we've done this now, and we'll keep polling you in the future to see if you want to keep doing so!

Where the tokens came from

The proposal, posted on Upland’s official feedback board, recommended burning the roughly 2.9M SPARKLET spent on seed generation and Uppie merges so far in 2026. A yes vote meant burning that amount.

Upland said the recommendation was based on previous community feedback. Comments on the board backed the burn. One commenter wrote that permanently removing the tokens would counter upcoming unlock schedules and reduce dilution. Another said they held more than 300,000 SPARKLET and were voting yes.

The first round

Upland ran its first vote of this type in the spring. That proposal covered approximately 1.9M SPARKLET spent on seed generation and Uppie merges during Q1 2026.

Voting opened Friday, May 1, 2026, at 9 a.m. PT and closed Monday, May 4, at 9 a.m. PT. Upland recommended that the tokens “be burned and permanently removed from circulation.”

Its reasoning was that existing reward and incentive pools were well funded and that reducing supply “supports the long-term sustainability of SPARKLET.” If players had voted no, Upland said it “will return with alternative suggestions for how this SPARKLET should be handled.”

Upland described that vote as the first in a planned series covering future SPARKLET spent through in-game activities.

How spent SPARKLET is handled

Upland’s 2023 SPARKLET white paper says spent tokens build up in a dedicated account. The company said it would work with the community on whether to burn them, move them to the grants or incentives allocations, or use some mix of those options.

Under that framework, the community has to vote on and approve a proposal before anything happens to the pooled tokens. A later Upland developer update said SPARKLET used in new features would go into a community-controlled pool, with players voting on how it gets used. Burning is one option. It isn’t automatic.

SPARKLET is Upland’s ERC-20 token. Players started spending it in 2025 on seed generation, Uppie merges and blueprint creation, the activities that fed both burn pools.

Upland’s announcement ended with a promise to keep asking: “we’ll keep polling you in the future to see if you want to keep doing so!”
