Two small plastic figures are the first confirmed way to get extra content in the Ocarina of Time remake. And yes, of course they’re amiibo.

Nintendo confirmed new amiibo of Young Link and Young Zelda, scheduled to drop in 2027. Scan them and you unlock special in-game masks with the look of both characters.

Just don’t expect the masks to change how you play. They likely won’t have any real effect in-game, so think of them as a costume and nothing more.

The 1998 designs made the cut

This is the part longtime fans will like. Nintendo kept the characters’ original look from the 1998 release, and those designs set up a lot of what later versions of Zelda and Link would look like.

The Young Link figure shows the kid version of the hero sitting next to Navi, his fairy companion. Young Zelda holds the ocarina itself, the instrument that becomes so central as the story goes on.

Both are up for preorder right now. If you want them, move quickly (stock has been in and out because of high demand).

The remake still has secrets

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still one of the greatest games ever made, and it’s coming back as a remake for Nintendo Switch 2. A full reveal showed us a lot more of the game, but plenty of mysteries won’t be solved until release day.

The biggest open question is new content. The word “remake” usually means fans can count on at least some new stuff, and nobody knows yet whether the developer added any. Until we find out, these amiibo are the one confirmed source of bonus content. They’d also look good on any growing collection shelf.

Don’t expect this pair to be the last, either. Nintendo has been eager to tie amiibo into its other Zelda releases as often as it can, so this is probably just the first wave for the game.

Zelda’s crowded calendar

Fans have plenty coming outside the remake, too. The movie is still on track for next year, and it’s set to be a standalone story that won’t affect the wider series of games much.

Nintendo should also share its plans for the series at some point. It’ll likely wait until the Ocarina hype dies down first.

For now, the clearest sign of what’s coming is a small plastic kid in green, sitting next to his fairy.
