Four and a half minutes of GTA 6’s prologue hit the internet on Wednesday, and for a lot of players that was the moment the leaks stopped being fun.
The leaker known as Cyberleek has been posting near-daily footage of gameplay from the upcoming game. Wednesday’s clip crossed into new territory: story spoilers, for the first time. It covers the game’s prologue and features Lucia Caminos, one of the two playable characters.
But the more interesting conversation right now isn’t about what Cyberleek has shown. It’s about what they haven’t.
None of this is confirmed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two. What follows is leaked footage and fan speculation around it, nothing more.
The build itself might be the answer
Cyberleek doesn’t appear to be reposting stolen video. They seem to be clipping the material themself, which has fans convinced the leaker has a playable build of the game.
The footage posted so far suggests something narrower: that it may be a restricted build. Once you start listing the trademark GTA elements missing from these clips, that theory gets harder to shake.
1. Lucia, playable
GTA 6 will feature a playable Bonnie and Clyde-esque duo named Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, as Dazed magazine revealed this week. Every leak Cyberleek has posted so far has Jason as the playable character.
The prologue clip features Lucia. Actual Lucia gameplay? Still nothing, despite the leaker teasing more Lucia-focused content.
2. First-person view
Over on Reddit, players have been trading concerns about the total absence of first-person POV footage. GTA 6 is primarily played in third-person view, and all of the footage sits in that camera.
That’s not damning on its own. GTA 6 is an extremely complex game, and plenty of it may be best experienced in first person. Vehicle customization options are extremely detailed, and first person is often required to appreciate the little details.
First-person view is very likely in GTA 6. We just haven’t seen Cyberleek leak footage of it.
3. The map, actually explored
Cyberleek opened with the map of the world of GTA 6, set in a Florida and Miami-inspired fictional state called Leonida. GTA fans working on a community mapping project confirmed it’s very likely legitimate, since it lines up with their own findings.
Knowing what’s on that map only makes the gap louder. In the leaked gameplay footage, there’s very little exploration of the massive interactive world.
4 and 5. Clothing and cars
Two major customizable features are missing from the leaked footage entirely: clothing and car customization.
The leakers have yet to post anything showing what will likely be a massive array of detailed options for your character’s style and your rides. For a series where people spend real hours in the barbershop, that’s a strange thing to skip.
6. An actual heist
There’s no shortage of robbery footage. Cyberleek has leaked plenty of GTA 6 robberies and carjackings, free-roaming stick-ups, gas stations held up for cash.
GTA is known for more than basic robbery, though. Complex, multi-part heists and criminal missions are the franchise’s signature, and nothing like that has surfaced. Which is odd, because you’d think that footage would be the most visually appealing thing a leaker could post.
7. Everything that isn’t a gun
GTA is more than just guns. But when it comes to the game’s other items, Cyberleek hasn’t shown them. No use of the in-game mobile phone, a major element of previous GTA games. An early Cyberleek clip showed Jason shooting a basketball, and that’s it.
The leaker hasn’t opened the Items tab in the menu at all during gameplay footage.
Whether more footage fills in any of these blanks is anyone’s guess. Netflix’s upcoming exclusive look at the game may end up showing what a restricted build never could.
