A prop artist named Sean Schofield posted a photo to Instagram, called the job “Dream job to end all dream jobs,” and then the post vanished. So did his profile.
That’s how we know A24’s Elden Ring movie has officially finished production.
Schofield shared an image of a thank-you note from director Alex Garland and producers Allon Reich, Matthew Penry-Davey, Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald and Charlie Reed. The note was sitting on top of an Elden Ring-branded backpack next to a keychain shaped like a clapboard, the kind of wrap gift studios hand out to crew.
“Dear cast and crew, thank you for your incredibly hard work on Elden Ring. Your skill, dedication, and all-round professionalism were integral in bringing this unique project to life. We wish you a well-earned rest. Thank you and very best wishes, Alex, Allon, Matthew, Peter, Andrew and Charlie,” the message reads.
Six months of blood, sweat and tears
Schofield’s caption is the part worth reading twice. “Six solid months of blood, sweat and tears making the coolest stuff ever, working alongside the best of the best. Can’t share anything else for a very long time, but I couldn’t be more proud of what we did,” he wrote.
Then the post came down mid-writeup. His profile went private too. Somebody, somewhere, made a phone call.
A very long runway to 2028
Production started in Spring 2026. The film is scheduled for March 3, 2028.
Do the math and that’s over a year of post-production, which tracks. Bringing George R. R. Martin and Miyazaki’s world to the screen is going to lean hard on the visual effects team, and the CGI bill for the Lands Between won’t be small.
What leaked in April still matters
Set photos hit the internet in April, not long after cameras rolled. They showed the execution of the Dung Eater and of Queen Marika, played by Emma Laird.
That’s a strong signal the movie is a prequel. The events look like they take place before the game, in the stretch of history before The Shattering tore the Lands Between apart.
Labels slapped on boxes in the background of those photos pointed to the Royal Capital of Leyndell showing up, with Stormveil Castle as another possibility. Props spotted on set suggest the Academy of Raya Lucaria gets worked in somehow.
A24 is not being cheap about this
The cast includes Nick Offerman, Havana Rose Liu, Jonathan Pryce, Peter Serafinowicz and Cailee Spaeny. The reported budget is more than $100 million.
For a studio built on arthouse economics, that number is the loudest thing about this whole production. Louder than a deleted Instagram post, even.
And Schofield can’t talk about it for a very long time. He said so himself, right before he couldn’t say anything at all.
