In Brief:
- Soneium promoted Press A, a project it said is building a “next-gen gaming IP ecosystem” on the Sony-backed Ethereum layer 2.
- Press A already runs gacha mechanics on the network and was one of four projects carrying bonus quests in Season 08 of Soneium Score.
- There’s still no public disclosure of funding, founders or IP partners, months after web3 gaming trackers first flagged the account.
Soneium used its main X account to promote Press A, a project the network said is “creating a next-gen gaming IP ecosystem on Soneium, taking you from your first pull straight into a nostalgic, old-school gaming adventure.”
The post opened a numbered thread and pointed followers to @PressA_to_start. It named no launch date, no token and no team.

What Press A already does
Press A isn’t new to the network. It was one of four projects carrying bonus quests in Season 08 of Soneium Score, alongside NekoCat, Kami and the Startale App. Its two tasks were Alpha Gacha plays and minting one Unique-grade NFT.
That accounts for the “first pull” line. Press A runs gacha pulls that return NFTs across rarity grades, with Unique ranked high enough that Soneium made it a quest objective. Drop rates and pull costs aren’t public.
Soneium said all four featured projects had taken part in previous seasons.
The Score program
Soneium launched Score in August 2025 to record on-chain activity and reward contributors on 28-day quest cycles. Points come from four components: activity, liquidity, NFT and bonuses. The activity score counts transactions, unique active days and streaks.
Wallets clearing 80 points mint a season badge issued as a soulbound token, non-transferable and permanently tied to the address.
Thin paper trail
Coverage of Press A outside Soneium’s own channels is close to nonexistent. No funding round has been disclosed, no founders named and no IP partners announced.
A separate studio also called Press A operates out of Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Founded in 2018 and a subsidiary of Devsisters, it has raised $9.68 million from backers including SBVA, Smilegate Investment and Capstone Partners. No public source connects the two.
Chain background
Soneium is built by Sony Block Solutions Labs on the OP Stack as part of Optimism’s Superchain. Mainnet launched in January 2025. The network has reported more than 500 million transactions, 5.4 million wallets and over 250 live applications.
Sony Innovation Fund committed an additional $13 million to Startale Group in January 2026, the first tranche of a Series A that brought total disclosed funding to $20 million.
Gaming has been a deliberate push. The Soneium Spark Program drew more than 1,700 applicants and selected 32 winners building web3 entertainment projects. The network later announced an incubator, Soneium For All, aimed at consumer and gaming applications, created with Astar Network and Startale Cloud Services with investment support from Sony Innovation Fund. Square Enix put Symbiogenesis on the chain, the first web3 game from a major publisher to launch there.
The parent company’s ambitions run wider than games. Kazuhito Hashino, head of on-chain business at Sony, said the company’s blockchain work is moving from experimentation to commercialization, and the division was renamed the On-chain Business Strategy Department. Plans cover music, animation, gaming, film and sports IP, along with legal frameworks and a GP/LP-style investment fund for entertainment projects.
Press A has sat on watchlists since February, when the web3 gaming newsletter Gaming Daily included it in a roundup of projects to watch for Feb. 9-13. The entry ran to a single line: “Not much info atm.”
