Snap wants $2,195 for a pair of glasses. Not a headset. Glasses.

SPECS, the first augmented reality eyewear from Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat, is open for preorder now. Shipping is expected in the United States, United Kingdom and France sometime in the fall of 2026. That preorder price includes a $200 refundable deposit to hold your spot.

The weight is the whole story

SPECS is built to be worn daily, for long stretches, which is a different design problem than building something you strap on for a 40-minute demo. The frames use Swiss TR90 thermoplastic, which is both resilient and light, and come in two sizes: 47mm and 52mm. The smaller one weighs 4.6 ounces.

Yes, that’s heavier than the glasses on your face right now. It’s also a wearable computer with advanced optics packed into a frame, so 4.6 ounces is doing a lot of quiet engineering work.

No screen, technically

There’s no powered display here. SPECS uses transparent waveguide technology to throw UI elements onto lenses that otherwise look ordinary, so your spatial awareness stays intact. You can still see the room. You can still see people.

Flip modes and it projects a full-color immersive display with a 51-degree field of view. Snap’s comparison: a 115-inch cinema screen sitting about 10 feet away.

The lenses are electrochromatic, so they tint automatically based on lighting conditions. And they’re prescription compatible, which matters more than the spec sheet placement suggests.

What’s actually running inside

The integrated PC runs dual Snapdragon processors on Snap OS 2.0, the company’s own operating system. Onboard infared and RGB cameras and sensors feed an array of computer vision, contextual awareness and AI assistance, so the glasses can read your surroundings and serve up relevant information and experiences in real time.

Snap has been pouring research into AR for years, which means SPECS plugs into an existing ecosystem and the Lens platform rather than launching into an empty room.

Four hours, then 20

SPECS is tetherless with an estimated four-hour battery life under mixed use. If that sounds thin, the included charging case pushes total usage time to 20 hours.

Nobody’s pretending $2,100 eyewear is a casual purchase. But if you’re a creator hunting for a new way to produce content, a professional after spatial productivity tools, a traveler who’s tired of computing through a screen, or just someone drawn to AI-powered wearables, the practical upside (and, fine, the coolness factor) may justify the entry fee.

Two sizes, two processors, one refundable $200 to find out.
