Tony Stark zipping between skyscrapers. Dodging enemies on a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. That’s the footage that got loose this week, and it’s far and away the most anyone has seen of EA Motive’s Iron Man game.
Leaks in gaming are usually a disaster. Ask Rockstar, which spent a good while picking up the pieces after Grand Theft Auto 6 got hit with a waterfall of them. EA went a different direction.
The post that broke containment
Hours after clips started circulating on social media, EA spun up a brand-new official X/Twitter account and posted a shrug.
“Well, that didn’t go as planned,” the post said. “But now you know, and we’ve got a lot more to show you. See you when we’re ready.”
At the time of publication that post has 14.8 million views and 198K likes. It landed almost out of nowhere in the middle of a Friday.
Unlike the GTA 6 situation, this was a controlled, early-in-development peek behind the curtain, which left fans free to comb through every second of footage for highlights instead of sifting through wreckage.
Fans think the leak did EA a favor
The replies are an ocean of goodwill, and a lot of them stick with the theme: acknowledging the leak this way feels like something Stark himself would pull.
“CRYING,” one popular reply said. “GOATED RESPONSE. LET’S GOOOOOO.”
“Very on brand for Iron Man to get hacked and aura farm because of it,” another fan said.
“See this is how you handle a leak,” another added. “Embrace it and keep cooking. Not burying your head in the sand.”
“You know what’s funny,” another fan online said, “I feel like this leak might have helped them because all I’m seeing is overwhelmingly positive responses to it.”
“Their response was great and the footage looked fire,” another said. “Can’t help but root for them.”
People genuinely thought this thing was dead
That reaction makes more sense once you remember the silence. We’re a few weeks shy of four years since the game was first announced, and updates have been scarce. When Motive was pulled in to help the Battlefield 6 team in 2024, some assumed EA had quietly shelved the project.
It’s been so long since anyone heard from the Dead Space remake and Star Wars: Squadrons developer that you don’t have to look hard to find replies from people who didn’t know a standalone Iron Man game existed at all. For them this functions as a fresh announcement for one of the most popular Marvel characters in existence.
What the footage actually showed
Some of it suggested armor customization and wrist-mounted laser attacks will be part of the experience. A few blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments teased that James Rhodes/War Machine and Pepper Pots could turn up across what looks like a globe-trotting adventure.
All the usual caveats apply. It’s unclear when the leaked footage was captured, and there’s a good chance some or even all of it gets cut before the final build. The game has no release date and no announced launch platforms.
A leak of this size showing an in-development game could have read as a net negative, and for EA it maybe still is. For everyone who’s spent years wondering what a standalone Iron Man game would look, play and sound like, the timing couldn’t have been better.
We won’t be sharing the leaked footage here. The clips are still out there, though, and you probably won’t have to look too hard.
